Soufirs

Soufirs is a varied region of plains, hills, and rivers, that was primarily inhabited by small human settlements and tribes prior to the Great Northern Winter. Following the onset of the Winter, and the subsequent collapse of the Finorrian Republic, the Halflings of the Dusklands, who made up most of the global Halfling population, were forced from their lands by Orcish raiders and the Encroaching Cold. After 22 years of navigating the devastation of the collapse of Finorr, and a generation of nomadic life, the Halflings eventually settled in Soufirs with the help of the Geedan Elves. During the exodus, several thousand also settled in other locations, such as Varofia and the Dwarven Biergs, while between one third and one half of the population are believed to have perished.   In modern times, the Halflings of Soufirs are organised into a loose coalition of communes, informally led by the largest, Hisaera, in times of crisis. These communes rarely number above 600 individuals - the largest number of people that the average halfling can maintain relationships with - and are directly democratic. They have largely agricultural economies, relying on trade with the neighbouring Gnomes and Galbasi Elves for the many luxury goods that are popular among Halflings. One such good that they produce themselves is blissleaf which, along with tabacco, is one of their main exports.
