Val-nerth

Val-nerth is a series of floating islands orbiting a sun in the Astral Realms.
Passage between islands is achieved by vessels similar to Mæl-ships, but designed for astral space. These ships form a thriving trade network.
Politically Val-nerth can be viewed as city states on the larger islands, with colonies for resource extraction. Ur's expansion into colonialism has brought it into direct contact and conflict with the Val-nerth city states, and a new status quo has not yet been asserted.
The sapients of Val-nerth have a unique ancestral memory, tied to the islands, that allows children to inherit the (incomplete) memories of their parents. This trait, while not heritable, has let to sapients from Val-nerth being labled as val-humans, val-aelves, val-trollen, etc. since it has a profound effect on their society and capabilities.
