Chant Magic are spells cast by speaking, or more often singing, specific words that are thought to have been used in the creation of the multiverse. Chants can be more effective when sung in a choir, although such a group requires rigorous rehearsal to work well.
Thought of as the highest form of magic, learning to chant is never studied from books but from instructors (although the Clock Tower have some theoretical texts). In Ur, instructors are only available to wealthy and [High Class) citizens.
This is the favoured magic of the Maxim Club, since it can be derived from the study of the universe's most fundamental laws.
Because it plays with fundamental forces there is little that a chant cannot do with the right words, but they must be meticulously composed and rehersed, and after a single use a powerful song will be rendered useless because of the changes it made to reality. Most chant magic instead follows standard formulas that are less precise and less powerful, but more broadly applicable. Once such application is the practice of Chant Duels.
