An October Hike #30: Cue The Violins

I arrive at Evergreen to be greeted by a group of younger changelings playing ball by the front gate. Their various skin colors are a quick reminder that I am indeed home. I try to make my way discreetly to the dorm. I need a good long shower before I'm in any means ready to be social. With only a few smiles and waves along the way, I make it to my room, where I am greeted by my waiting, lonely roommate.

"Look who the dawn brought in!" she starts, making her best impression of a disapproving mother.

"Only you would call three o'clock 'dawn', Zel!" I scoff with a grin. She gets up and meets me in a hug.

"You're awfully sassy today. Wait, what's that?" she pauses as she starts sniffing me like a bloodhound. "You got laid, didn't you?"

"No, I didn't!" I lie as a big revealing grin spreads to my cheeks. Betrayed by my own face.

"Your big stupid smile says otherwise! Fuck, while I was doing diddly-squat back here, you were out hiking the meaty peaks of men!" quoth Zeldine, the wordsmith.

"Oh, cue the violins!" I sigh as I close the door to the bathroom and start disrobing.
