An October Hike #21: Mutated to Something Better

Morning. Despite the less optimal sleeping conditions, I have been out cold. Easily the best sleep this month. I lie for a bit, pondering, smiling. My good sleep the only sign of all the night time spelunking.
I'm so distracted that I almost leave the tent without my hat. We can't have none of that now that I've come so far. I put it on, but today it feels less like a burden. Less like a cage, more like an accessory. As I exit, I'm met with 'goodmorning's from the others.

"Did everyone wake up before me?" I ask with a lighter voice, less burdened with worry.

"Maybe because you snore like a rhinoceros," the man of the middle-aged couple snorts, earning him a playful jab from his wife.

"You don't say that to a girl," she reprimands.

"No, it's okay. I must've slept well then," I smile, and cast a glance at Leo, smiling back at me. A spark in his eye greets me, and I am tempted to go over there and kiss his beautiful face, but for now, a smile must suffice. This trip sure mutated into something far better than what I had initially feared.
