An October Hike #12: No Grotesque Monsters
We're at a pretty remote place out here, but since hikes are still organized, so it must be safe. No grotesque monsters. I close my eyes and force myself to take some deep breaths. That event is behind me, and this is now, and now is safe. Somewhat at least. My pointed ears are sore from being pressed against my scalp for so long, but I can't let them breathe yet.
We gather between the tents for a while. Leo starts by giving us the practical information for the night, and then we just talk for a bit. The middle-aged couple has been chatting up most if not all of the other hikers during the way up, so they are pretty comfortable talking to anyone. They actually seemed so even before knowing anyone too. The teen girls are content sticking to themselves - hyped that they made it this far. Makes me wish I could have brought one of the girls too, but they can't hide their heritage as easily as I can. Even inhuman skin colors aside, I don't see Zeldine or Kass making it far in hilly terrain anyway. The thought alone brings out a stifled laugh.
