Icarus

Icarus is a minority governmental body located in pockets throughout Sidereas, mostly located within the galactic central and galactic west. One of the youngest "new" governments to be found in the galaxy, Icarus was spawned under the idea that all in the universe deserve to live without the prying eyes of their overlords watching their every action. It was created as a direct counter to Waning Stars, who attempted to stomp out the revolutionaries with little success. Waning dominion in Sidereas has left a bad taste for many, especially due to their xenophobia in comparison with most other Sidereal races. As a result, Icarus support, especially in regions with a high amount of mixing from various races, has been steadily rising in the past few decades.   Icarus stays afloat mostly through political support under the table from non-human and specifically non-Coalition races in Sidereas. Their weaponry and gear is among the highest quality in the galaxy due to the wealth brought in through their secret supporters. They can't contend in numbers with Waning Stars, but they make up for their size with quality.   Icarus space is known to be rather lawless, as is emblematic of their entire belief; part of their ideals involving lack of federal control means most region are apt to defend themselves and come up with their own rules. As a result, crime lords or local feudal systems spring up all over Icarus space. People may not have to pay Icarus tax, but they often need to give tribute to local warlords for protection. Even then, piracy runs rampant throughout most Icarus systems. It's unwise to travel through Icarus space unarmed.   Those who choose to live amongst Icarus banners tend to prioritize freedom and choice in their daily lives, or are enraged by the constant warmongering of Waning Stars. Life is a bit more 'personal' in these systems, where most have personal experiences that differ greatly based entirely on who they run into, namely, the warlords who tend to run these systems.   Currently, Icarus and Waning Stars are in an uneasy truce. The political temperature of all races in Sidereas has risen in the past few decades, and as a result, most are tending to themselves for now, building up armies and preparing for potential skirmishes or even all out warfare on the horizon. There are occasional raids or "convenient accidents" that happen to either side along their shared borders, but neither group claim responsibility for any damage caused to the other.   Icarus’ emblematic colors are orange and grey. Their identification symbol is an orange phoenix rising from a grey and orange planet.   Icarus: Contagion Containment Group (CCG) Icarus is known for one of the most altruistic military units in the entirety of human colonized space. The Contagion Containment Group is known for its ability to control outbreaks and keep volatile health risks at bay. While Waning Stars has a group similar to this, they are nowhere near the level of the Contagion Containment Group. This unit is used across the universe in many situations, by every major organization present. Even Waning Stars requests the unit to perform in WS occupied space, and as the two groups have agreed that biological threats are above the disagreements of the two, Icarus complies and sends the unit to perform waste management tasks inside of their territory.   CCG is one of the most ruthless and effective military groups around. Because of their work dealing with weapons of terror and biological destruction, they often have an inclusive definition of what counts as a biohazard. Oftentimes seen as overzealous, if the CCG is called in to work on an operation, it is likely they will spare no person from their quarantine methods. They prefer not to take risks and require anyone well within a hazardous area to be quarantined until the problem is dealt with. In addition, while it has almost never been condoned, the CCG often requests to kill - or as they put it, “neutralize” - anyone with a particularly deadly or infectious biohazard to ensure it doesn’t spread.   The CCG Personal Containment Suit (patented by Icarus,) is so technologically advanced that it leads some conspiracy theorists to believe it’s been brought back from the future by time travellers. The suit sports the perfect combination of alloys and tech to basically make it impossible for bacteria, germs and life forms from contaminating the surface of the suit. Soldiers have recalled touching the outside of the armor as, “Like a burn that seeps through the skin.” It is also important to note that the Personal Containment Suit has rather tough and effective armor, as the possibility of a puncture in the suit is seen as a serious detriment.   Icarus: Marksman Specialists Icarus has one of the most feared marksman groups in the entirety of human colonized space; the Icarus Marksman Specialists, who are a collection of the best shots in Icarus occupied space. Comprising only 17 members, the Marksman Specialists have some of the longest recorded confirmed kills as well as one of the best track records for stealth operations. Their armor haunts any warlord or crime syndicate, as the iconic purple glow of the triangular image sensor on their helmets provides an eerie glow. Oftentimes this purple light is the only thing visible to those lucky enough to catch an IM Specialist in the dark. The glow is oftentimes unregistrable without the use of vision enhancing optics.   With the combination of their tech and skill, these soldiers are some of the most feared on any battlefield today. Commonly referred to as the boogeyman, Icarus Marksman Specialists are the most skilled and tactful units in the Icarus military. Some even consider them to be on par with Waning Star’s VTF, but statistics prove this as a falsehood. Even still, IM Specialists are the silent blade that keeps the peace.
