Social classes

Social classes play a large part in the lives of the witches of United Britannia and Hibernia. The wealthier the family, the more prestige the family has, despite other factors (like their social reputation, for example). Access to some restaurants and other activities are often restricted to class (even if a person of another class could afford it).   Fortunately, there are no homeless people in United Britannia and Hibernia; homeless witches are provided with free government housing. In addition, there is no real "lower class." Rather, the witches at the bottom of the economic scale are considered lower middle class.

History

Social class has always been a part of United Britannia and Hibernia. In truth, the only things to have changed is the lack of a lower class.   To many, inherited wealth is considered much more prestigious than money earned from a career or other means. Families with the most money for the longest time are considered the elite of society.

Breakdown of classes

  • Upper class: 5%
  • Middle class: 85%
  • Lower middle class: 10%

Changing classes

Advancing to another class is virtually impossible. The vast range considered in being middle class is so large that many people will never be able to move up a bracket. Fortunately, the same is said for the opposite.

Employment and class

Since education is funded by the government, lack of money does not inhibit a witch's career. However, as mentioned, inherited wealth is considered much more prestigious than earned wealth.
