Cargo Hulk

Large flat ships that transport cargo through the Gem Sea. Originally used by Draconians in ancient times, the Phervian adapted the design. Other than small personal ships, the cargo hulks were the only ships in use around this time. However these ships were restricted to the gem sea due to the storms that formed outside. Large, wide, and low in the water, the Cargo hulk dwarfed most other ships right up through the Fey age.

History

Originally used for all transporting, the arrival of the Serpent Class saw a rapid decrease in use in favor of the faster more movable ship. This continued leaving the cargo hulk only moving those cargoes too large or heavy to be profitable in small quantities and not valuable to be raided. By the mid-rebel age, the cargo hulk had been all but decommissioned.   In 200 Devine the ship saw a resurgence when Rivell launched a fleet of one hundred modified hulks against the Akoom crusader fleet. Just charging in a line wedge, similar to a cavalry charge, the superior size came into play capsizing half the crusader fleet that was unable to get away. Though the battle was lost due to the poor speed and mobility of the hulks, the invasion of Rivell had been postponed due to losses. The fact that Lacertillia repeated this move a decade later, only mixing in other ships and setting them on fire as the collision happened reinvigorated the cargo hulk.   Cargo hulks found a use for long, heavy journeys as well as the good transport of choice in the silent lake. Both ramming and fire variants were also employed in navel defense with squads stationed at Shadow's port, Lacertillia, and Tourlu.
