Underworld 2313 A future underground

In the year 2100, the Earth’s surface was almost completely covered in urban cityscape. These mega cities span both width and depth – supporting billions of people with across multiple levels and floors with climate-controlled zones and artificial day and night cycles.   On August 13th without warning or alarm, the citizens of lower London were shaken by hundreds of explosions at surface levels. Emergency systems were triggered and sealed the way between the lower and upper levels. 10 standards levels below the surface (a kilometer) stood completely sealed off between lower London and the surface. Many doors were permanently shut from fires or rubble, AI security refused to allow access to certain areas, and deadly radiation could be detected the closer to the surface a person went. The millions of citizens of lower London were trapped in an event known as ‘The Great Seal’.   It is now the year 2313. For over two centuries, humans have lived and died in what is widely know to its inhabitants as the Underworld. As it became apparent that entrapment underground would be more than short term, people began to group together and form collectives to defend each other, grow food, and engage in all the other things that make humans human. The ability to make and repair machinery and hack computer systems has become a much-valued skills by communities seeking to survive. Inevitably in an environment with limited resources, violence has become commonplace ranging from small skirmishes between small groups to full scale wars between larger nations.   This world building project records the people, places, nations, events and more of the Underworld in and before the year 2313. Some of these records are very presented factually, others in more of a story telling format.
