Regina Matar

God Save the Queen!   The Regina Matar, often called the Queen, is a relic from a bygone era for Ahntier. In modern history the Queen is not necessarily related to the King, and holds a more religious position in society. The Regina Matar is the liason between the government and the various religions of the Empire. While she is not expected to belong to any of these she is responsible for knowing their workings, and arrangeing the times of their celebrations to not impede one another, figuring which ones can work together at the same time, or must be observed separately. She is also the judge of disputes between churches that involve state funds, lands, or infractions of the law.

Requirements

The Regina Matar is always the first daughter of the current Regina, and is expected to have knowledge of all the religions in the Empire, and to have participated in some way with the various churches.

Appointment

The Regina Matar is appointed in a ceremony that includes either the funeral of the previous Regina, or her resignation. It is expected that she gain the blessing of each church before assuming the role of Regina Matar.

Duties

The Regina is the liaison between state and religion, so her duties to the various churches is somewhat nebulous and vague, depending on the church. While she has no direct authority in either the church or the senate, her assignment of religious observances can effect both, and the Regina has control of the state calendar, which includes state holidays. It is also the duty of the Regina Matar to assign funds from the treasury to charitable works.

Benefits

As part of the royal family, the Regina Matar and her family live in the royal palace, and their expenses are handled by the State. She is also immune to prosecution by the Senate, but not from the Church.

Accoutrements & Equipment

The Regina has access to all the best in food, clothing, and transportation. Officially, as representative of the religions of Ahntier, she carries a seal from each church. Usually this is a pendant or broach.

Grounds for Removal/Dismissal

The Regina Matar can only be removed from her position by the religions she represents, though refusing her also means a church will have no representation until a new Regina comes to power. Alternatively, if the Senate votes to replace the royal family she will be striped of her title as well.
