Tyranis Admits to Liquidating the City!

Balder's Gate Gazette, Special Edition

Tyranus Gambledorf in a shocking turn of events has admitted to embezzling funds meant for the clear water initiative for the use of criminal kingpin Rothgar the paranoid. The initiate was put in place after it was discovered that isolated pockets of “dry water,” a substance mimicking water that quickly desiccates its victims, was discovered in the cities sewers. Tyranus had been quick to propose and enact the initiative, his swiftness in working to resolve the crisis being a popular political move at the time.

However, in a stunning turn of events he spoke onstage at the recent congressional hearing and publicly admitted that he overstated the severity of the crisis, and used excess funds, totaling 60% of the budget, to fund the illicit activities of Rothgar in exchange for their support in the upcoming election for grand duke. The fact that there are no current elections planned for the position of grand duke, with the current leadership being rather hearty, a moment of distressing concern.

Not content with a simple confession, Tyranus provided detailed paperwork regarding the illicit transactions, including a laundering scheme through Fizzlethorps Tailory, a now suspected front for Rothgars gang to funnel nobleman funds into their pockets.

However, the plot further thickens when it was discovered that during the guards questioning post confession that Tyranus had actually been under magical influence during the meeting. Despite the fact that this would render his confession inadmissible, the guards were still able to verify the authenticity of evidence presented and arrest Tyranus, who is looking to serve a 40 year sentence for corruption, enhanced on account of his extended lifespan as an elf and the governmental nature of the crime.

Investigations into the perpetrator of the magical influence have come up short.

It is suspected that the perpetrator was a recent addition to Tyranus’s retinue, an intricately detailed war forged designed to mimic the visage of a human. After the confession this war forged disappeared from the city, and scrying attempts to find them have been unable to pinpoint his location for the guards to question him. We may never know who this mysterious robot was, but it is undeniable that if he was the manipulator in this sordid affair, he has saved Baldur's Gate from a heap of internal strife.
