On the Road
We were called together by the S-tiers of a peacekeeping organization in the far north, warned of the threats of some extremely powerful chaos crystals. We were sent to a town in a southern swamp to investigate mysterious disappearances. The idea was we would travel overland, reach a teleporting circle, make a jump, then walk a little more. We met Big Bird, who was our guide, made introductions and started off.
We entered a magic forest where we met Kabbage, the drow ranger. While in the forest we encountered a merchant attacked by twig blights. After we drove off the twig blights, we bought some magic items, including a book that let someone learn celestial and let Larkspur learn Modron.
We then entered an abandoned archmage’s lair, with an ooze with reverse AC. Everyone got good, but cursed, magic items. Larkspur got a dagger that cursed them to always tell the truth, or take 1d4 psychic damage. We found a chair mimic (Ryan the Chair) that was surprisingly friendly and not much else. We camped and were attacked by more twig blights.
Somewhere in there we met a dryad queen and were told that she had a sister who had been corrupted by dark magic. The other queen was sending waves of twig blights to attack, but this dryad queen didn’t want to hurt her sister. Somewhere in here we met Moop of Moop’s Marvels. We bought assorted magic items, including a bag of holding. After some thought, the party realized that Larkspur, who doesn’t need to breathe and is short (4’8”) could enter the bag of holding. While there, they saw a thin spot, and through the thin spot, a massive Astral Dragon. Unable to speak draconic, and also the only one able to enter the bag, Larkspur asked for draconic lessons from Argent so they could maybe communicate with the dragon. Also while there, they switched one of their eyes for a magic crystal found in the archmage’s lair. This granted them truesight up to their proficiency modifier times per day.
We also took several sidequests, one collecting some mushrooms, one killing some gnolls, and one hunting down a ghost boar. We got some tusks off the ghost boar, Dell realized he could run really fast, killed some gnolls, and got really high on mushrooms. In fact, the mushrooms transported us into a subplane, where we realized that Larkspur could run forever. Literally.
Then a general of the good dryad queen approached us about going against the queen's wishes and killing the corrupted dryad queen to stop the onslaught of the twig blights. Larkspur experienced some internal conflict about going against protocol, but decided that in the end their loyalty was to the party.
They went and battled the corrupted queen, nearly dying, and Larkspur lost an arm. Larkspur used their truesight to spot a demon that was attached to the queen. They managed to remove and capture the demon, taking it to be interrogated by the other queen. The demon revealed himself to be very creepy/metaphorically slimy. During the questioning, Wigglesme-Tigglesme appeared and killed the demon.
We left the forest kingdom, after battling some giant spiders, and entered the grasslands. While we were passing through the grasslands, we encountered a group of small people who had lost some winged kittens. We helped them find the kittens, and Lux and Dell convinced them that they were deities. They also gifted us one of the kittens in thanks, which Larkspur adopted, and later lost in Regaclith.
At some point in here, Larkspur also entered the bag of holding and managed to start talking to the dragon. It answers questions in return for knowledge.
