Myth Dranor Mindflayers
O’Harrier, as the new president of Myth Dranor, was dealing with a new drug issue on his streets in the form of the Chaos Drug. He hired some adventurers, (See: Undercity Spleunkers to come help track down the source and take care of it. The group interviewed the known associates of those who had taken the drug and been dramatically killed by it: the wife of a jeweler, and the clan mother of the two drow miners. The corpses were also interviewed via Speak with Dead. According to the wife, the jeweler had recently been commissioned to make a pendant of a seven-fingered hand and a three-headed dragon. He had sold it to Light Severus. He and his wife were also planning a trip to Moonshae soon, indicating that he had not intentionally killed himself.
The clan mother of the miners, Ravinca, directed the group to the Choked Canary, where both miners worked. The party managed to sneak in or get jobs as employees. Behind a waterfall that was used as part of the production process, the party found Timmy Two-Times. After applying some pressure, Timmy spilled the beans on the Light and Shadow, the organization manufacturing and distributing the drug. The party got Timmy to lead them through the deep tunnels to the HQ. On the way they encountered the stone panels depicting the Freeing of the Drow myth. There was also a run-in with some displacer beasts and ropers. Finally, they also found a area with some mind-controlled mindflayers with spinal taps. The conclusion was that the drug was being distilled from mindflayer spinal fluid. Ew.
Somewhere in there, it was also found that the party could commit war crimes via Alantaer the Duplicitous high-level illusion magic. I.e. trapping creatures in an air-tight container and letting them suffocate to death. It was done once, and then mutually agreed that it would never be done again.
Eventually the party forced there way through an aura of pants-shitting fear, leaving Timmy behind. There they found the heart of the operation, with dozens of mindflayer slaves toiling away. Discreet inspection of buildings revealed several purple dragon hatchlings in test-tubes and an Elder Brain of a mindflayer colony in a cocktail of drugs and enchantment spells. There also appeared to be all the leaders of the Light and Shadow organization wandering around. Eventually Maya Wendling failed a stealth roll and the party (the fight) got started.
An elder purple dragon was unleashed and in an act of desperation, the Elder Brain was freed. This, in turn, freed most of the mindflayers. This had the benefit of finishing of all the leaders, with the downside of the Elder Brain was now trying to attach itself to the dragon. (There was some implication that WMTM was helping the Elder Brain take over the dragon). Maya died, and in an act of desperation, Harrier essentially put two bags of holding together, sucking himself, Maya's corpse, the dragon, and the elder brain into the Astral Sea. All who were still alive perished.
Harrier was resurrected via a clone he had prepared in advance. Rider got some of Maya's blood off a sword that stabbed her and took it to someone capable of Reincarnate, and she was brought back as a drow. The rest of the party was given their due rewards, the issue creation and distribution of the chaos drug successfully halted.
