Lady Alexandra Stephanie Wilson (a.k.a. Nyx)
Alexandra Wilson, also known as Nyx Karesinda, is the main protagonist and narrator of Shadowbook. She seeks to become a Shadow, and falls in love with Astor Nocturne.
Physical Description
Body Features
Nyx grew up malnourished, and is therefore somewhat scrawny-looking, but otherwise attractive. She has long hair which is strawberry-blonde in Conscious form, and crimson in Shadow form.
Facial Features
Nyx has a pretty, teardrop-shaped face. In her Shadow form, she is as deathly pale as other Shadows. Her eyes are sea-green in her Conscious form, but become deep purple in her Shadow form.
Special abilities
Nyx exhibits standard magical ability for a Shadow, but Hecate intends to train her to improve her skills beyond an average Shadow's capabilities.
Umbrakinesis:
- Umbrakinetic Constructs: Nyx's ability to form constructs is limited. She struggles with molding darkness into complex shapes, especially three-dimensional constructs. She cannot make tangible constructs, and the only semi-tangible construct she can manage is weak balls of darkness and umbrous tentacles. However, she demonstrates proficiency at intangible constructs, especially "shields" or "curtains" designed to obstruct or absorb.
- Darkening/Light Absorbtion: Nyx is particularly inclined towards light absorption, casting an area in total darkness or dragging a "shroud" of darkness behind her. She can also darken water (see below).
- Intuitive Foreboding: Nyx's Nightsense is the ability to detect when people are able to harm her, which feels like an uneasy feeling in her chest or stomach. The worse the feeling, the worse the person she's confronted with. This has helped to protect her during her tenure in foster care.
- Waterproof Folds: All layers of Nyx's folds are completely waterproof. They do not get waterlogged and dry quickly.
Apparel & Accessories
Her folds are midnight-blue and black, of medium thickness, and she likes molding them into long, sweeping dresses with the appearance of velvet, silk, or chiffon. She has a fondness for black and silver jewelry.

Personal history
Alexandra and her twin sister Patricia were born in the Conscious world, and were able to stay with their mother for several years until she abruptly vanished. The sisters were then placed in foster care. Alexandra spent most of her childhood in foster care, constantly transitioning from home to home and rarely living in one place for more than a year.
She began doing research on The Shadow Realm for herself, eventually learning of its existence with help from her friend Senka. Using a key left behind by her mother, Alexandra and Senka managed to find their way to a small part of the Shadow realm and confirm the existence of Shadows. The two girls and their friends became more interested in researching Shadows and learning how to become Shadows themselves. Alexandra renamed herself Nyx, to symbolize taking a new identity as a Shadow.
It was then that Nyx met Astor Nocturne, whom she saw as a potential guide to the Shadow Realm and a means of easily accessing it. She quickly became infatuated with Astor. Astor brought Nyx to Umbragard, and although she was overwhelmed by his advances, she began a romantic relationship with him. It took Nyx a while to fully trust Astor (especially after seeing him prey on a classmate) but eventually decided to trust him, being both enamored with him and desperate for her life to change. A month later, Nyx left foster care behind and attempted to settle into a new life as part of Astor's court. Her adjustment was interrupted by a sudden attack from Astor's uncle, Abaddon. Nyx aided Astor in navigating Abaddon's labyrinth, and defeated Abaddon herself.

Nyx's education was very inconsistent, becuase she switched schools so many times. Despite this, Nyx genuinely loves learning, and was therefore a good student. She viewed education as a kind of solace from the chaos of her everyday life.
When she comes to Umbragard, Nyx begins learning magic under Hecate.
Personality Characteristics
Motivation
Above all things, Nyx wants to feel happy, loved, and secure. Most of her childhood has been inconsistent and chaotic, with no stability and no one she can depend on. Her foster parents and other guardians are often neglectful if not cold towards her, and she's had few friends. Part of her interest in Astor and in Umbragard comes from a place of sheer desperation for things to change.

Nyx is a good strategist with well-developed street smarts. Her ability to lie well actually serves her most of the time. Like Astor, she's very sensual and has a great appreciation for beauty and aesthetics. She is as intense and carnal as he is. She's also creative, intelligent, loves learning and enjoys talking, bonding with Astor through discussing their shared interests.
Her social skills are poor, but for different reasons from Astor. Her distrust of everyone around her makes her unwilling to depend on people, and she has a hard time making friends. In general, her sense of identity is very poor, leading to her lashing out or being attracted to dangerous or destructive things just to define herself.

She likes the colors blue and black, the night sky, swimming, traveling, nature, taboos and the occult, reading, sex, luxury, and stability.
She dislikes feeling bored, neglected or oppressed, and uncertainty.
Virtues & Personality perks
Nyx is a naturally enthusiastic and optimistic person, despite that optimism having eroded considerably overtime and given way to cynicism. She is passionate, spirited, and full of hope at her best. She has never given way to depression or despair, and her sheer determination and willpower have gotten her through her trials. She has a good sense of humor, although it's dark and dry. She is brave almost to the point of being self-sacrificing, and will fight for absolutely anything. She is also extremely independant and invested in her own freedom, with a revolutionary streak a mile wide. She is one of the only people in the court who is completely unfazed by Astor's outbursts, and helps to keep him in check.
She has an inclination towards altruism and activism, and will be the spokesperson for whoever else feels oppressed or disadvantaged. Her compassion and generosity towards the underprivileged is an important virtue for her as a future queen. Despite her cynicism, she believes that ultimately, people are good or can become good. She is noble and honorable, and others see her as tolerant, understanding, and even wise.

She has a tendency to be impulsive, hotheaded, and reckless. She lacks patience and is quick to anger, although her temper flares and then dissipates instead of sticking with her the way Astor's does. She has opinions about everything and expresses them bluntly, which is sometimes a good thing but often comes across as tactless. She also hates boredom.
She's extremely defiant and stubborn, even when she shouldn't be, because she hates being restrained or told what to do. She often rebelled against her foster parents just to maintain a sense of identity. She is often provocative just for the sake of it, and is drawn towards things that feel forbidden, secret, or taboo. On the other hand, she has a desperate desire to be special to counter the neglect she experienced, and feels like she deserves to be an aristocrat. Like Astor, she can be domineering with a resentful sadistic streak, but she is more ruthless than he is. She can be aggressive and even violent. She resists authority unless its her own.
She's materialistic. She appreciates money, splendor, and social status, partly because it represents the stability that she's previously lacked, but also just because she likes pleasure and being the center of attention. She can be too invested in possessions. She's can also be lazy when unmotivated, even selfish. Her ego is just as fragile as Astor's, but she's less sensitive to hits because she's taken enough of them.
She's good at lying, from needing to lie regularly as a survival skill. She is also extremely distrustful in general, and fear keeps her from forming the intimate relationships that she desperately needs. She assumes that other people are out to get her, assuming that love she receives is not sincere.

History
Astor noticed Nyx one night while in the Conscious world, and felt inexplicably drawn to her. He approached her during the day, while she was in school, and introduced himself to her. Nyx was simultaneously enthralled by and afraid of Astor, completely infatuated while also being wary of him. Astor came on a little strong at first, bringing her to Umbragard and revealing himself to be the Prince of Shadows. Nyx was overwhelmed, but let Astor kiss her, and they continued to slowly develop their relationship. They found that they were extremely compatible and enjoyed each other's company, It took Nyx a while to fully trust Astor, but once she did, she fell deeply in love. Astor became Nyx's ticket out of her horrible upbringing in foster care, and her introduction to the Shadow Realm, which drastically changed her life for the better. Astor considers Nyx the love of his life and intends to marry her.
