Dave

(a.k.a. Dave)

Introduction Dave is a main protagonist in Misadventures of Non Canino, known for his role as an assassin rogue. While it is established that Dave is an elf, the rest of his features remain shrouded in mystery. Dave's personality is multifaceted, characterized by a quiet, deadly, and focused demeanor, as well as an occasional display of goofiness and chaotic tendencies. In combat, Dave's style ranges from close quarters to ranged, depending on the situation, utilizing his rogue abilities to take down his enemies swiftly and efficiently.

Background

Dave's background remains shrouded in mystery, with little known about his childhood or early life. While he has revealed very little about his past, it is known that he used to reside in Raven's Creek, though the details surrounding his time there remain unclear. However the following are pieces of his backstory that were shared:   Dave's formative years were marred by the heart-wrenching loss of his parents. Their gruesome fate at the hands of merciless loan sharks left an indelible mark on his young soul, instilling in him a deep-rooted fear of vulnerability and powerlessness. To shield himself from ever experiencing such a helpless state again, Dave developed a compulsion to accumulate gold and riches. The glint of gold became his armor against the uncertainties of life, offering him a false sense of security and strength.   Fate, however, is a capricious force, and it seemed to favor Dave in a twist of providence. When circumstances aligned against him, he narrowly escaped a destined demise. The inexplicable string of good fortune, though saving him from death's grasp, had an unintended consequence. The Rogue of Death, an ominous figure that reaped the souls of those whose time had come, took notice of Dave's unanticipated evasion, causing an unsettling pursuit that lingered over him like a shadow.   Other than his backstory, Dave is noted to be involved in The Murder of Arun Gilixia, being the one who murdered Arun Gilixia and is responsible for the forest fire in Brief Roads.

Personality

Dave is a complex and enigmatic character in Misadventures of Non-Canino, with a personality that is often unpredictable and multifaceted. Initially, he was perceived as a kleptomaniac, displaying a tendency to steal from others, as seen when he attempted to steal Agnes' belongings at the start of the campaign.   Dave's treatment towards his party members seems to vary, at times acting kind and helpful, while at other times displaying rudeness and even aggression, which can be seen as reflective of his bipolar tendencies. For example, he has shown kindness towards Tharmur, often helping him in difficult situations and rescuing him while also arguing and fighting with him and Eli over trivial matters.   Dave has a tendency to disappear and hide from others, often engaging in his own activities, such as robbing store clerks or stealing from citizens. He is known to surprise party members by appearing right behind them. Dave takes pleasure in stealing, regardless of the value of the items, and has shown sociopathic tendencies, such as taking pleasure in killing guards and people, as seen during the Incident of Tharmur's Detainment, where he killed 14 guards when only two needed to be killed. However, it was later revealed that Dave has a literal demon inside him, which may explain his aggressive and malicious behavior.   Despite his sociopathic tendencies, Dave has displayed wistfulness at times, such as when he attended The Temple of Amadeus to repent for his sins, although he immediately stole from the temple afterward.   Dave's form of affection is expressed through his actions, rather than his words. He has shown care and concern towards Tharmur, stalking him and ensuring his safety, as well as keeping an eye on the people he cares about. Dave has also shown a degree of closeness to the other party members, engaging in activities such as playing Magic: The Spreading with Louis, Tharmur, and Leilatha.

Dave's Diary

Within the stoic and ruthless exterior of Dave, the rogue known for his cunning and daring exploits, lies a treasure trove of his true emotions and innermost thoughts. His diary serves as a portal into the depths of his soul, revealing a side of him that few have had the privilege to witness. Through his sketches and heartfelt expressions, we discover a playful, imaginative, and childlike personality that stands in stark contrast to his hardened demeanor.   Dave's diary bursts with sketches that depict a side of him rarely seen by the world. Amidst the pages, we encounter drawings of himself with silly expressions, showcasing a carefree and playful demeanor. These sketches serve as a visual representation of the joyous child that still resides within him, untouched by the darkness that surrounds him in his rogue persona. In the diary's pages, Dave immortalizes himself and his friends in whimsical drawings. His playful depictions often include humorous scenes, such as Agnes being hit with a hammer by a construct, which Dave finds hilariously entertaining. This sketch was also followed up with an apology because Dave experienced the same mishap. The diary's pages reveal a tender side of Dave reserved for his love interest, Pyra. His sketches of her possess an exaggerated charm as he playfully exaggerates her "intimate" features.   Despite his skillful and daring exploits, Dave's self-doubt and insecurities manifest in sketches that portray him as an ugly and horrible person. These self-deprecating drawings offer a glimpse into the internal struggles he grapples with, hinting at a lack of self-acceptance despite his bravado. Furthermore, Dave sketches absurd figures of black-hooded men, humorously claiming that they are the "Evil Version of PPP" - figures who were already evil to begin with. These drawings may be a coping mechanism, reflecting his reluctance to confront the darker aspects of himself.   Within the pages of the diary, Dave memorializes important events and memories that have left a lasting impact on him. From significant encounters to powerful experiences, his sketches provide a visual chronicle of his adventures and personal growth. These drawings serve as a testament to his desire to preserve cherished moments, allowing him to revisit them and draw strength from them when needed.   Among the playful sketches lies a childish mountain that Dave claims is the dwelling place of his grandmother. This whimsical touch suggests a deep emotional connection to his family and the ability to find solace and comfort in the imagined realm of his childhood. The appearance of a figure named "Walter White," whom he falsely identifies as his dad, reveals a longing for familial connection or perhaps a way to cope with unresolved feelings about his past.

Mental Trauma

Dave, the enigmatic rogue known for his penchant for theft, is no ordinary treasure hunter. His obsession with hoarding gold, even the most insignificant trinkets, has earned him the moniker "Dragon," evoking images of a mythical creature that hoards vast riches. Beneath this facade lies a complex and troubling truth - Dave's kleptomania is not merely driven by greed or desire for wealth, but by a deeper, more sinister force. A malevolent demon resides within him, intertwining with his soul and triggering sociopathic urges. As we delve into the origins of this demon and its mysterious connection to the ominous Rogue of Death, we gain insights into the tangled web of Dave's psyche.   Dave's kleptomania can be traced back to his early life experiences, where the murder of his parents by heartless loan sharks left him with an acute fear of vulnerability. In his quest to build a metaphorical dragon's hoard, he seeks to amass a sense of control   The true complexity of Dave's kleptomania lies in the presence of an otherworldly entity residing within him - a malevolent demon. Unlike a typical possession, the demon is not merely an intruder in Dave's soul; it is an integral part of him, sharing a symbiotic connection that fuels his sociopathic tendencies. As Dave becomes ensnared in a web of malevolence, the line between his identity and that of the demon blurs, giving rise to a disturbing internal conflict.

History

Dave and Agnes' relationship is nothing but tense, grudge-full, and immaturity. Both of their personalities and approaches to life are vastly different. Agnes is known for his orderly and structured nature, while Dave's personality is more chaotic and unpredictable. Agnes viewed Dave nothing more than just a rogue for hire. Dave viewed Agnes as whiny and pathetic, but his hatred for Agnes had always seemed random. Both engaged in physical combat on multiple occasions, with Dave going as far as knocking him out for being wronged by Agnes. Dave is a skeptical man and his skepticism had always extended to Agnes.   Agnes, in turn, views Dave as unreliable and potentially dangerous, viewing him as a psychopath. Dave has been known to make fun of Agnes in his journal, drawing him as a nerd and making silly remarks about him. However, despite their differences, Dave has shown a willingness to risk his life to save Agnes from danger, as seen during the case where Agnes was surrounded by two Iron Golems. Dave rushed in to carry Agnes, however he failed to escape their grasps. In that moment, Dave chose to stay to figure out a different solutions instead of letting Agnes go as bait (as many thought he would.)   Interestingly, Dave and Agnes share some similarities, as both have had involvement with fiends, though the specifics of their situations differ.   Dave's hatred for Agnes was revealed when it was discovered that Agnes' adopted caretaker, Celthin, was the one who murdered Dave's parents. Dave also held a grudge on Agnes solely for being a former loan sharks. Loan sharks are Dave's worst kind of people. Despite Dave's burgarly and assassination line of work, he believes loan sharks are the lowest of the low. This has to do with Dave's parents being victims of loan sharks.   Most of Dave and Agnes' dialogue involved Agnes talking and Dave listening but often not acknowledging. Dave does listen to Agnes' commands and suggestions, because Dave does view Agnes as the intelligent one in the party. However, Dave was also shown to rebel agaisnt Agnes' wishes if it ever came down to protecting his friend, Tharmur. This was showcased when Dave chose to stalk Agnes against his wishes. Then shooting Agnes' in the throat during Agnes' episode of fiendism when he was about to hurt Tharmur.   When Dave realized he was responsible for Agnes death as he was possessed by Ogin, he did feel remorse as one normally would, but Dave moved on pretty quickly from Agnes' death.

History

Dave and Tharmur's relationship is a close bond that can be likened to that of siblings, with occasional squabbles and arguments but ultimately a strong sense of mutual care and protection. The two are known as a chaotic duo, often getting into trouble together such as during The Funeral of Orlet when they accidentally ruined Folluin Jotris's reputation by making him appear as a homosexual lover of a petty thief, which almost got them imprisoned. Dave and Tharmur would also prank each other such as when Dave left Tharmur hanging when Tharmur was being interrogated by Leilatha and Tharmur returning the favor by snitching on Dave for stealing Leilatha's book.   Despite their tendency to get into trouble, Dave and Tharmur are seen as a strong team, with Dave expressing concern for Tharmur during his Kidnapping Arc. Tharmur views Dave as one of the few people in the party who is relatively sane, a testament to the trust and care that the two have developed for each other.

History

Dave and Louis initially had a tense relationship due to Louis being the only one who had seen Dave unmasked and Dave harboring murderous intent as a result. However, Dave was eventually able to move past this, and their relationship evolved into one of competition and mutual respect.   Both Dave and Louis are known to be competitive and would try to one-up each other, especially in trivial matters such as playing Magic The Spreading. Despite this playful competition, they share a sense of humor, as demonstrated by their decision to stop exploring the dungeon during The Second Bonae Arc in favor of playing Magic The Spreading at a particularly good table they found, which annoyed the rest of the party.   Dave and Louis have also shown a willingness to help each other out, with Dave assisting Louis in seeking vengeance against Agnes for locking him in Leilatha's room. Overall, their relationship is one of playful competition and mutual support.

History

Dave and Pyra's relationship is a complex blend of rivalry, animosity, playful banter, and an underlying romantic tension. For years, they have been locked in a fierce competition, constantly clashing and vying for the treasures they come across during their respective adventures.   Dave harbors a deep-seated hatred for Pyra, fueled by their never-ending rivalry. He sees her as a thorn in his side, constantly thwarting his plans and stealing the spotlight. Despite his intense dislike, there is an undeniable magnetism between them that keeps their interactions charged with electricity.   Pyra, on the other hand, takes great pleasure in teasing and mocking Dave. She delights in pushing his buttons and revels in the chaos she creates within his more serious demeanor. Pyra sees their rivalry as an opportunity to not only best Dave in their treasure hunts but also to challenge him to embrace a more unpredictable and spontaneous approach to life.   Beyond their heated rivalry, there exists a subtle romantic tension between Dave and Pyra. While they may not openly acknowledge or act upon their feelings, there are moments of undeniable chemistry and connection that simmer beneath the surface. Their banter and constant back-and-forth create a dynamic where their emotions intertwine, blurring the lines between rivalry and attraction.   Dave is characterized as both serious and goofy, displaying a juxtaposition of traits. He is dedicated and focused on his pursuits, driven by a strong sense of purpose. However, he also possesses a lighthearted and playful side that emerges in certain moments, bringing a sense of levity to their interactions.   Pyra, on the other hand, embodies a playful and goofy nature that often masks a deeper seriousness. She uses humor and wit as a defense mechanism, hiding her vulnerabilities and true emotions beneath a mask of mischief. Pyra's ability to balance her light-heartedness with a shrewdness and determination adds depth to her character and keeps Dave on his toes.
