Bonae's Attack Arc

The Beginning

In the year 766 of the Fourth Era, a human named Eli Rosestone embarked on a journey to the city of Bonae, riding in a wagon along the winding roads. Meanwhile, a towering Goliath named Louis arrived in Bonae and sought refuge at Mia's Inn. It was there that Louis crossed paths with Balgalor Swifthold, a wood elf who presented him with a mysterious Abyssal book. Surprisingly, Balgalor willingly shared the book's knowledge with Louis, and their conversation began to unravel the secrets contained within its pages. Simultaneously, a nimble rogue named Dave found himself in need of food and resorted to pilfering from Eli's wagon. While attempting to remain inconspicuous, Tharmur, disguised as Augustus Bornhigh, attempted to blend in with the guards in the city.

The Gallows

As the day progressed, an execution was scheduled to take place in the bustling Town's Center. Among the condemned criminals was Lezeke, a charismatic Golden Dragonborn who fearlessly taunted the guards overseeing the execution. The tension reached its peak when the guards proceeded with the execution, only to have one swing of the axe fall short, leaving a criminal alive. Lezeke seized the opportunity to mock the ineptitude of the guards, causing laughter to ripple through the crowd.   However, the atmosphere abruptly shifted as a surge of viridescent lightning crackled across the sky, heralding the arrival of an ominous force. From the very ground beneath them, a horde of undead creatures emerged, plunging the town into chaos. Faced with this sudden and terrifying threat, the characters quickly prepared themselves for battle against the relentless undead onslaught. In the midst of the panic, Dave attempted to escape, but the surging crowd knocked him down, compelling him to join forces with the other characters in their fight against the undead.

The Dark Knight

After the victorious battle against the undead, the characters found themselves in a momentary respite, only to be confronted by a formidable Dark Knight descending from the sky. Clad in pitch-black armor and wielding a massive sword, the Knight targeted Balgalor, clearly aiming to claim the Abyssal Book in his possession. Despite the characters' attempts to subdue the Knight, he proved to be virtually unstoppable, inflicting severe wounds on Eli Rosestone and posing a grave threat to their lives.   In a desperate move to protect the book, Balgalor made a split-second decision and threw the Abyssal Book to Lezeke, entrusting him with its safety. Balgalor then used his remaining power to banish himself and the Dark Knight to an unknown realm, sacrificing himself in the process.   With the battle over and the undead threat subsided, the group of Eli, Lezeke, Dave, Augustus, and Louis found themselves standing together, attempting to comprehend the events that had just transpired. Eli, recognizing the significance of the Abyssal Book, approached Lezeke and requested it, believing it should be safeguarded. However, Lezeke, feeling a sense of responsibility towards the book's power, refused to relinquish it, leading to tension between him and Eli.   Louis intervened, understanding the importance of the book and its contents, and expressed his desire to accompany Lezeke and Eli on their journey. Recognizing Louis' strength and noble intentions, Lezeke agreed, forming a bond with the Goliath. Meanwhile, Augustus, who had been seeking an escape from the situation, was halted by the rest of the group, aware of his ties to Empress Grace. They understood the danger of him reporting their encounter to the Empire and decided that Augustus would not be allowed to leave.   Dave, for reasons not yet fully known, made the decision to join the party, perhaps intrigued by the mysterious events and recognizing the potential for adventure and reward. With tensions high and uncertainties lingering, the newly formed group must now navigate their conflicting motivations and forge a path forward, united by their shared possession of the Abyssal Book and the unknown dangers that lie ahead.

Retrieving Wares

As the party convened at Mira's Inn, they engaged in a discussion about their next course of action. Eli proposed the idea of returning to Balgalor's house to uncover his true intentions regarding the book and find a way to unseal it from its arcane lock. Lezeke, however, remained adamant that he would not accompany them until his confiscated items were returned.   In the midst of their deliberations, Augustus made the decision to retrieve Lezeke's belongings from the Warden's Room. Venturing into the building, he encountered a skeptical Dwarven Warden named Ruggobek Ironsword, who regarded Augustus with suspicion. Despite the initial distrust, Ruggobek reluctantly agreed to return Lezeke's possessions to Augustus.   Unbeknownst to Augustus, Dave had been enticed by Eli's offer of two gold coins to shadow him and discover his true intentions. Unfortunately, Dave's attempt at stealth failed miserably, resulting in a comedic moment where he clumsily fell to the floor in front of Augustus. Seizing the opportunity to save face, Dave quickly pretended that he had been doing push-ups. Recognizing that Dave had been spying on him, Augustus let out a sigh of resignation and decided to bring Dave along, knowing that his presence would persist regardless.   After reaching Balgalor's house in the ghettos of Bonae, the party took the opportunity to bond and learn more about each other. Lezeke inquired about Louis' class, to which Louis revealed himself as a blood hunter, demonstrating his Crimson Rite ability by stabbing a dagger into the table and causing electricity to surge through it. Impressed, Lezeke shared that he was a Paladin, boasting his smiting abilities. Eli falsely claimed to be a sorcerer, while Augustus portrayed himself as a bard of lore. Dave confidently declared himself an assassin, revealing his expertise in stealth and combat.   During their bonding moment, Louis and Lezeke decided to investigate Balgalor's house in search of clues about his intentions. They discovered a trapdoor concealed under a carpet, which Lezeke detected was imbued with magic. After contemplating various methods to disable the trap, they opted for a more direct approach and forcefully opened the door. The consequence of their action was a loud blast that reverberated through the neighborhood, drawing attention to their presence.   Shortly after, the party heard a shout from outside the front door, demanding the appearance of someone named Agnes. A member of the Silent Mamba, a secretive organization, approached the party and presented a picture resembling Eli's face, with only a minor error in the depiction of his nose. Sensing trouble, the party reacted with violence, initiating a fierce battle against the Silent Mamba grunts. Through their combined efforts, the party emerged victorious and restrained the defeated grunts.   Seeking answers, the party proceeded to interrogate the grunts, who mentioned a certain "Lovaz" and their intent to capture an individual named "Agnes." The party then questioned the general on how to clear Lezeke's name. The grunts responded with a man in Socaller's Fronte. Ultimately, they chose to render the grunts unconscious and made their way to the basement of Balgalor's house, determined to uncover the secrets hidden within.

Balgalor's Dungeon

As the party ventured deeper into Balgalor's dungeon, they discovered a grand chamber adorned with pillars, statues, and a foreboding gate that emitted a menacing growl from behind it. Positioned before them was a book stand, its empty pages awaiting fulfillment. Recognizing that each page must be found in a different room, the party embarked on their exploration.   The first path they chose led them into a dimly lit room, where small pockets of light illuminated their surroundings. Eager to investigate a chest across a bridge enveloped in darkness, Lezeke courageously crossed. However, he was swiftly ambushed and stabbed in the back by an unseen assailant.   Reacting swiftly, the rest of the party sprang into action as they realized the room was infested with shadow demons. Engaging in a grueling battle, they fought tenaciously against the elusive creatures. Dave found himself overwhelmed, succumbing to the onslaught of two shadow demons. But through their collective efforts, the party emerged victorious, their endurance tested.   The subsequent rooms presented simpler puzzles to solve. In one room, they encountered a mirror that revealed the true nature of the surroundings, cleverly deciphered by Louis. Another room challenged them to navigate a river with a fox, a chicken, and a bag of grains, a puzzle solved by the collaboration of Lezeke, Eli, and Dave. A pressure-plated room filled with traps required the combined skills of Lezeke, Augustus, and Dave to overcome. Lastly, a room with rising water threatened to drown the party, but with the resourcefulness of Louis and Eli, they emerged unharmed.   With the pages gathered and assembled, a coherent story unfolded before the party's eyes. The tale spoke of a powerful and wise red-haired elf, believed to be Ammryn Augenfield, an esteemed Commander in the war and a close friend of Balgalor. They learned that Augenfield had not met a natural demise but was killed. As the pages aligned, the gate opened, revealing a colossal Ogre possessing formidable psionic abilities, ready to engage the party in battle.   However, the party, particularly Lezeke and Louis, proved to be formidable opponents. Their combined strength and skill swiftly dispatched the Ogre, sealing their victory.

Balgalor's Library

Behind the imposing gate, the party discovered Balgalor's hidden library, filled with arcane-sealed books containing the knowledge he had sought during his expeditions. Among these precious tomes, the most significant finds were Balgalor's journal and his letter addressed to Eli. The letter revealed that the one who possessed the ability to unlock the Arcane Seal was a High Elf named Leilatha Mirakrana.   During their exploration, Augustus came across a book specifically about changelings and discreetly pocketed it for himself. Lezeke found a book dedicated to his god of war, Ademis, providing him with further insights and inspiration. Louis stumbled upon a book delving into Noman, the god with whom he seemed to harbor a grudge. Eli discovered a book detailing the intricacies of warlockery and the entity known as Megurlon, his pact dealer.   As the party settled on their chosen items, they also stumbled upon a reward chest. Inside, they found a charred greatsword, a sack of gold coins, a potion of giant strength, a shield of arrow catching, an amulet of health, and an abundance of health potions.   However, a dispute arose when Lezeke, driven by greed, expressed his desire to keep the coins, shield, and amulet of health for himself. The rest of the party protested, emphasizing the importance of equitable distribution. Eventually, they reached a compromise and agreed to divide the gold coins among themselves.   With their newfound knowledge and treasures secured, the party decided to depart from Balgalor's house and head towards Socaller's Fronte, where they planned to clear Lezeke's name. Being wanted in The Empire for heresy, this journey would be crucial in vindicating him and ensuring their collective safety.
