Ultor

At first glance, Ultor appears as any other world. A myriad collection of races all simply trying to survive. But the land is broken. Healing, but broken. Never-ending maelstroms hover at world's edge, concealing the true expanse of the world from the surviving races. Once beautiful farmland has been reduced to nothing but dust and weeds. And still more land is scarred by powerful magic energy, mutating or killing anything that tries to scrape out a living there. The cause of this devastation has largely faded into myth. Ancient ruins hold locked away secrets of a once great civilization, lost to time -- ripped apart by a great civil war. The relics of the past are indecipherable enigmas, held together by more powerful magic than any living mage could possible comprehend, save the ancient dragons.   But there is hope left. It has been merely 1119 years since the holocaust of the Morlu War came to a final, crushing end, and the surviving races have managed to build many prosperous cities and states from the ruins of the empire. War between advanced civilizations is an anomaly -- perhaps the only good result of the Morlu War. Research into the lost magical, alchemical, and other arts is steadily marching forward inexorably, with legions of researchers churning out new discoveries, inventions, and ideas. To the average person, living a simple life, free from the scourge of war and want, it may seems as if the apocalypse never happened at all -- and is just a lingering folk tale, of the distant past.   In this chronicle, I, Vimalus Emaryn, Naturalist of the Druidic Enclave, make a (perhaps feeble) attempt at chronicling our world -- our Ultor. Herein you shall find most every topic you should dream (assuming I do not perish before its completion!). Of course, as you will know, this tome is in constant work and I think I shall spend the rest of my days writing it, but I have had all copies of this tome magically imbued such that when I update my master tome with another article, so shall yours be. So, without further ado, let us immerse ourselves in this wonderfully complex world that we call our home.
