On the Color of Dragons

Here, dear readers, I shall describe to you a few of the draconic colors that you may observe in your travels, and what each means. By no measure is this list comprehensive (no list of these colorations is), but it is quite an interesting field of study, I should say. Without further ado, then:

Deep Red:

A deep red coloration indicates that the draconid creature wields fire, and has a temperament that may be described as "fiery," too. The fire manipulated by the dragon can be natural or magical in nature. Red dragons are quite capable pyromancers, but can also use the flames of a natural wildfire as a weapon too (either way, they make excellent chefs!).

Emerald Green:

The color of a poisonous beast; a master of all toxins, poisons, and deadly substances capable of felling a living beast. Their vast knowledge of alchemy and toxins has drawn the attention of the alchemical enclave, which very much respects and nearly worships emerald dragons. Amazingly, the dragons can intuit, magically, what perfect combination of herbs can fell any beast -- and how quickly. Accordingly, should you ever find yourself on the bad side of one of these cunning titans, I advise that you should move far away -- and maybe never eat again!

Icy Blue:

Legends claim that frost giants were created by the gods only after an ice dragon first suggested the idea. Whether or not this is actually true, it does highlight the dragons' incredible understanding and mastery of frost, ice, and all things cold to the touch. You may normally find an ice dragon living in the far north, or high up on a mountain -- somewhere that freezes you to the bone. Outside of its home, a chill air surrounds the dragon, and a chill wind accompanies it everywhere that it goes.

Bronze:

A bronze dragon is quite a peculiar and unique creature. They are the only living beings allowed to practice chronomancy since they understand the flow of time better than any other living being could comprehend, excepting the god of time himself. Bronze dragons have the unique responsibility of guarding the flow of time itself, for they are uniquely sensitive to any tampering with the past or future, and are acutely aware of the damage it can cause. Accordingly, bronze dragons are often much more social and cooperative with other creatures than the norm.

Silver:

Silver is associated with knowledge due to these dragons. A silver dragon is a master of the arcane arts and the knowledge required to master them. Spells come easily to silver dragons, and many dragons can simply invent new spells on a whim. They combine spells in ways never before thought of. And they cast the most complex of arcane spells with ease.

Pale White:

Death and disease follows these beasts, and they can bring any creature to a slow, painful death with but a sideways glance. These creatures are harbingers of death itself, but they are also experts on the cures for the disease that they can spread. Like most other creatures, they are not malicious by nature, but their chosen method of self defense often ensures that they don't have to fight very often.

Earthen Brown:

Not a master druid lives who does not wish to someday meet an earthen dragon. They are the color of the soil, and are truly masters of it. They can will plants to grow without water, and in places where it should not be possible. Combat druidry comes easily to them, as if it is just some simple arithmetic. I should wish to meet one myself, should the opportunity ever arise.

Bright White:

Exceedingly rare, bright white dragons are divine beings. They are brought into the world by the gods themselves and sent forth to cleanse the world of the gods' enemies with holy light.

Black:

Equally rare to the divine dragons, a black dragon seems to only come into being whenever a divine one does, as if to balance light and dark. A black dragon is a manifestation of the darkness itself, and can use that darkness to drive its prey mad. They are not especially malicious as so many people fear when they see the dark silhouette in the sky, but they do harbor a special animosity for the bright white dragons and their servants.

Bright Yellow:

The lightning wielded by these dragons is especially deadly due to the speed of its transit. An agile fighter may be capable of dodging a breath of fire or frost, but nearly no living creature can dodge lightning. It cannot be followed by the eye, and seems to strike before it is even fired. Should its lightning magic for some reason not suffice the dragon, it may also summon thunderstorms at will.

Amethyst:

These deep purple giants are masters of teleportation, portals, and gateways, and can appear and disappear at a moments notice -- opening and closing portals with such speed that they are nearly impossible to fight.

Pale Blue:

A more pale and whitish shade than their frosty cousins, pale blue dragons are master summoners capable of producing a vast amount of minions to do their bidding.

Marbled Black and White:

The dead are the vessels of these dragons. They are feared for their ability to commune with the dead and summon them. It seems wholly unnatural to most people, and they tend to fear what they cannot understand, but there is no indication that what these dragons do is any different than what well-respected necromancers do.

Slate:

Also known as "stone dragons," slate colored dragons are masters of stone. They can cause earthquakes, form pebbles into a dangerous hail storm, turn a man to stone, and shape stones in just about every way you may think. Mages often seek these dragons out in order to learn how to build the most stable, strong structures from stone. Many of those slate dragons that agree to teach stone workers can often make quite a fortune from it.
