Forbidden Arts

It is the truth of the world that there are things that have been discovered that ought to never have been. I hesitate to even write these cursed practices down. Twisted "arts" so demented or dangerous that the council of Grandmasters has outlawed each and every practice I shall write here. All I need say is this: should you be tempted to practice one of these arts, you ought to remind yourself of what happened to all those before you who did the same, and realize that it can only be worse for you.

Unconscious Necromancy

A necromancer's role in this world is to study death, and to use their knowledge of the planes to commune with the dead. To raise an undead creature that is absent of mind is to damn yourself. It is law that all creatures raised by a necromancer must, to a reasonable degree, maintain the same level of mental acuity as when they were alive. To reduce a noble beast to a slavering and shambling monster is to dishonor it in the most heinous way. If I had my way, I should hang anyone to do such a thing over a fire, and let them roast slowly. I will say nothing more of this disgusting matter.

Chronomancy

A science that cannot be explained, interpreted, or understood is not a science at all. Should you find yourself in the company of a spellcaster espousing the misfortune of chronomancy as a misunderstood science, a swift slap in the face should suffice to let them know what you think. Chronomancers were once allowed to practice their false science on this world, and the resulting paradoxes, catastrophes, and accidental breaches of the material plane by any and all other planes swiftly brought an end to their freedom. Tampering with time is strictly forbidden. It cannot be understood what will happen. It cannot be predicted. You cannot know the damage you will cause. Tampering with time in the slightest is stupidity beyond what kind words can describe. Chronomancy is grounds for instant imprisonment or execution in most kingdoms. For the better.

Cerebromancy

Perhaps the only thing worse than destroying a creatures mind when bringing it back from the dead is destroying the mind of a still living creature. Cerebromancy is mind control. There is not a single scientific trapping within 1000 leagues of the idea. Tinkering with the mind of another living creature is prohibited strictly, and enforced by the Druidic Enclave -- with lethal force. Cerebromancers are nothing more than criminals who take sadistic pleasure in twisting the minds of their victims until they are unrecognizable shells of what they used to be.

Soul Stealing

To deny a soul its ascension to the afterlife is a most heinous crime indeed. As all educated folk must know, the soul leaves the body upon death and travels to the plane of its principle deity, to be guarded there for eternity, or until reincarnation. Unfortunately, base mage discovered that the soul can actually be harvested for magical power upon its release. This is the basis of the magic behind soul gems and many other dark magics. The mages' enclave prohibits the use of such dark wizardry, and will pursue any criminal found to be using it to the ends of the world, if need be.

Blood Magic

The use of blood magic is irresponsible and dangerous in the extreme. It was blood magic that most likely caused the destruction of the Morlu War, and may have even created the rift contained by the Apocalypse Ring. It is extremely powerful and concentrated -- the perfect storm to create a rift, from which all manner of monster may spill. Specifically, I speak of that blood magic requiring the sacrifice of another living creature. Using a drop of your own blood is entirely permissible, provided that you are not casting some dark spell, of course! Engaging in blood rituals will inevitably result in your death or imprisonment (usually death) at the hands of the mages' enclave. Consider this your warning.
