Dracus

Dracus' are a tiny race of dragons that can sit comfortably in one's hand, they a found exclusively in the forested mountains of Middle Ground on The Island of Tod and are very delicate creatures, especially to rapidly changed environments and aggressive conditions. On the island, the species are considered very important and even sacred in some small circles, because of this it is rare than a non-islander gets to hold, let alone own, a Dracus for themselves.
Dracus come in a variety of shapes, styles, sizes, and elementals, the most common general traits include small leathery scales, slanted yellow eyes, spiky spines, long tails, and sharp claws; essentially small versions of your average dragons. However, some Dracus are found to have feathers, round colorful eyes, dull/non-existent claws, short tails, smooth skin, and can even live underwater for most of their lives.
The Dracus that live underwater strongly resemble Watership Beasts in their physique, with the smooth neutral-toned scales that change colors based on environmental factors, health, and mood; they also have a similar body-to-spinal spikes ratio with stronger webbing but, unlike Watership Beasts, these Dracus are still able to fly with their wings.

Conservation Status

Dracus' are under strict supervision and protection, with regular check-ups and a long list of "don'ts" that must be followed to ensure peak health and the survival of the species. Because of this, only the most dedicated and financially stable of individuals are allowed to have one as a pet, even for a short period of time, and they must be able to pay attention to even the smallest of details in a Dracus' behavior and appearance.
