The Island of Tod

The Island of Tod was once a thriving environment, home to many of the Old Worlds mystical beings, until a war destroyed them all.   It is now closed off to the world, and very protective of it's technology and magic. Eno, the neon capital of Auferetu, is known for their advances in medical and industrial technology and an increase in average life spans. The Veritas region is a living record of Old World Beliefs and practices, often the high leaders of this area are sought after for their wisdom and knowledge in the arcane and divine.

Geography

The Island is divided into two main areas and one neutral middle ground; Auferetur is the northern empire of the island, Veritas is the southern portion of the island, and the name for the middle ground has been lost to time.   Auferetur is smooth feeling, with smooth rolling hills the closer it gets to middle ground, much of the coastal portion is flat due to large industrialization and settlements being placed. There is often lots of fog covering the island until around noon and after a few hours pass, as the day cools down, the fog will slowly roll back in. The main source of water comes from the surrounding ocean, which goes through s filtration process to make it safe for consumption. Often photographers, both professional and amateurs, will gather in groups and clubs throughout the city streets, coast, and skyscraper rooftops for an evening or midmorning session. The view of the neon lights shining through the night fog is said to be so breathtaking and life changing that often important figures and celebrities will go through months of careful screening and monitoring just to see it for one night.   Veritas is another place entirely though, this region is covered all over with plants and vegetation, along with wildlife and sanctuaries. There are many small mountains, deep valleys, and hidden villages and monasteries scattered about the area. Some of these trees can go to be as tall as the vast mountains separating the island, even counting those at the bottom of deep valleys! It is dangerous to venture unless you are well equipped and with a resident of the area, many people who have gone in have never been seen again, including their remains.   Middle Ground; it is said to be the point of the last stand that led to the world's near total destruction. This is largely supported by the huge stone titan statue of Colossus, an earthly deity-life figure who fought gods and mortals alike to defend the island in the Old World. This area is largely marked by the massive mountain chain, with its rugged and steep peaks and forested sides, the only way to travel from one end of the island to the other is by crossing the Colossus' staff, which she holds up with both hands. It acts like a bridge over the deep valley that leads into the ocean, the valley is surrounded by two mountain ranges that verge into one large one the rest of the island through.   This 'Valley of Colossus' as people have promptly dubbed it, is still very mysterious to the islanders as few have dared to explore it. What is known is that the currents that rush in from the surrounding ocean are fast and dangerous, it was observed that when dropping a test dummy into the water, the dummy was ripped to shreds as the currents slammed it repeatedly into the jagged edges of the mountain slops. The Colossus herself is covered in patches of moss, with one of her legs behind her protruding out of the converging mountain, a waterfall leaks out of this area as well.

Fauna & Flora

Many large trees stretch along the southern side like a parasite, in which many of its roots are entangled as if it were one being. These 'trees' provide the home for many of the animals and beings living in the forest, from fae and hand sized dragons to green whales and monster elks.

Natural Resources

Plenty of water and wood available to use, coming from the ocean and incredible forest that covers the southern portion of the island. Lots of mines along the border mountain range leads for many types of minerals and metals to be used at one's disposal.

Maps

  • Island of Tod Map
A traditional concept map for the Island of Tod; the northern section is Auferetu, the Southern section is Veritas, and the center is Middle Ground. Auferetu holds more than half of the total Island population and is the most technologically advanced, Veritas is more old school and natural in their day-to-day lives but are far from ignorant of how to use modern tools and technology, and Middle Ground is a sacred area of the Island that is home to the mysterious Statue of Colossus and the infamous Temple of Ruins in its mountains.

Author's Notes

Whew! It seems a lot of the character articles I'm working on are tied to this island and yet I haven't made an article for it yet? Strange! Here is the birth place and childhood home to many characters, both primary and secondary, to the world of Ultimus collection of stories~
