Hadar (/ˈheɪdɑːr/ or /hädär/)

Hadar is a world eating entity that travels the universe and consumes worlds. Hadar came into being from the leftover energy and matter after the creation of the universe. They are constantly wracked by conflicting emotions. Being made of the same material, Hadar loves the universe into which they were born. However, coming into existence from leftovers also fills Hadar with a feeling of rejection: a feeling that they do not belong amongst the other created things. These negative emotions torment them constantly, and Hadar eventually came to hate all other things for causing them these feelings. This conflict between love and hatred resolves in them as an all consuming hunger. Hadar seeks to bring about the end of all things by consuming and becoming one with the universe.

Origin

Hadar originated in the spaces between planes, where a slurry of raw creation settled into the nothingness that resided there. That nothingness found that it rather appreciated the consumption of creation, and it began to grow, glutting itself on the leftover materials of the universe. When most of the stars were still young, and the planets were just beginning to settle into molten lumps, Hadar finally consumed enough of the universal runoff to pop into existence.   At first, the young world eater came into existence as a small, formless thing. Barely the size of a watermelon, they were overwhelmed by what they perceived. Having experienced only nothingness before that moment, the existence of anything was entirely too much, let alone everything. As they drifted there in space, Hadar realized that something was coming into them. Light and magic, emitted wildly by the fledgling stars, beat against the formless outside of Hadar, and then became trapped within. And so, Hadar grew. Feeling a kinship with these things, Hadar instinctively moved towards them.   Largely unlimited by a physical form, the fledgling entity followed the flows of magic to a young star, steadily burning and condensing at the center of a nebula. Excited now, Hadar rushed towards the star, happily enveloping everything through which they passed. The star, which was just beginning to become aware of itself, panicked as it saw Hadar approaching and absorbing the nebular as they went. In a desire to preserve itself, blasted the world eater with a flare of solar fury, but the energy simply fell into Hadar, as if into a bottomless pit floating in space. To the star's horror, this seemed to encourage the pit of nothingness, and Hadar crashed into the star at top speed. The two of them shone around one another, and the star slowly fell into the nothingness and became part of them, like everything else that they had touched.   As Hadar consumed more and more, they naturally began to have more and more of a physical form, and they found themselves slowing down as they had to exert energy to move through the universe. The death of a star did not go unnoticed, and many began to conspire as to how to overcome this new threat. For their part, Hadar simply moved towards the next concentration of magic and energy. They were, and are still, unsatisfied.

Wisdom of Ages

In the current era, Hadar is one of the most ancient entities to live, and is feared by the gods of the few inhabited worlds that exist. The entity has developed a taste for populated worlds, as they are able to incorporate the knowledge of the mortals and gods that reside there, which they consider to be a fabulous treat. As such, Hadar possesses the combined wisdom of innumerable stars, gods, and worlds.

Dark Offerings

As their exploits of destruction have become known, Hadar has been challenged by godlike entities residing on the various worlds that have fallen before them. As such, Hadar has learned to establish contact with residents of destination worlds, offering them power or other boons in exchange for their participation in conspiracies to weaken their worlds' defenses. With their accumulated knowledge of magic, Hadar is able to grant these willing Servitors power and the freedom to do with it what they please, in addition to obeying the world eater's commands.
