Pursuit of the Dragonkey: Game 27

General Summary

The Company of the Furies: Eumenides continued its rapid fire investigation into the death of Tathik Glodreddi, the chief tax collector of Hammerfast, which seems to have developed a life of its own as the Company has discovered plots within plots. While the Company delved into Gerrke's hidden hideout of the disgraced priest of Moradin, the Hammerfast Guard investigated the shop of the silversmith and Circle of Stone member, Valgard Silverheart. The Hammerfast Guard was foiled, fell victim to powerful traps, and once again enlisted the assistance of the Company. The Company purused a magical shape changing shadow monster that was disguised as the silversmith's assistant down into another crypt. Shadow monster fled with the sacred Dragonkey, which has protected Hammerfast since the Arrival of the Great Worms from a return of evil Dragons. If lost, then the great and powerful magics will not longer protect the dwarven from the powerful and ancient worms. Something tells the Company that this cannot be positive when the mysterious Cult of the Dragon has for some reason set its sights on Hammerfast and appears to be using the fanatical Circle of Stone against the dwarves.

Silversmiths

The boxes of smuggled goods, dark black liquid and weapons, were being transported from Gerrek's secret lair to the house of two dwarven silversmiths in the Craft Ward, Valgard Silverheart and Jordis Silvertongue. The Hammerfast Guard raided the silversmith's workshop and home, and were rudely surprised by a fericious and supernatural resistance. Valgard and the smiths' assistant were killed, with the assistant turning into a shadow monster that drained the life and killed three dwarves by turning them into shadows. The three "shadow dwarves"in turn were slain. Jordis flec down a hatch to a basement, which was storing the transported boxes and had a secret door. Each crate held 10 gallons of thick black ooze, each gallon weighing 15 pounds, or dwarven weapons (axes, cross bows and quills).   The secret door was magically trapped, which exploded killing the Hammerfast Guard's second best locksmith, Kostbera Rhaklock. The Hammerfast Guard Chief Investigator, and best locksmith, Reirir Rhaknose, is the brother of the now dead Kostbera Rhaklock. Reirir Rhaknose determined that the door was locked with a powerful magical lock. Instead of seeking to disarm the trap that killed his sister, he decided to have the Hammerfast Guard begin digging outside of the silversmith's house down past the basement. In addition, the opening to the secret door, the basement showed symbols of the ancient Tomb of the Masons, which bar all native dwarves from Hammerfast entering the tomb.   Finally, before proceeding down into the Tomb of Masons, Chief Investigator Reirir Rhaknose, gave the Company a schroll, which could return them to the spells that they had memorized at the beginning of the day.

Tomb of Masons

The Company moved down into the Tomb of Masons though a spiral staircase which lead to small ciricular rooms connected to larger circular rooms. The Company fought or scared off shadowy rats, and killed a strange etherial Soulbeckoner monster whose whisper caused those to save vs. spells or be drawn to it. The stairs were covered with strong, wet webs, which are either from a yet as unknown monster or some magic weapons or spell cast by the fleeing Jordis Silvertongue. The Company found the Gauntlets of the Dwarven Masons.   At the bottom of the spiral staircase, the Company found more traditional linear rooms and hallways, which were only 5 feet high and three feet wide, and is following the trial of the fleeing Jordis Silvertounge.   The Company disarmed some traps, skipped hallways and doors, and directly followed the trail of what they hope and believe to be the dwarf Jordis Silvertongue.
