Aquaponics, Robust

Aquaponics has come a long way from its early days.  Aztec's and the Chinese had primitive forms of aquaponics, but it was until the late 20th and early 21st centuries that it really started to be looked at as a solution in space exploration.
"The development of modern aquaponics is often attributed to the various works of the New Alchemy Institute and the works of Dr. Mark McMurtry et al. at the North Carolina State University, who devised an "Integrated Aqua-Vegeculture System" (iAVs) based on the combination of aquaculture and sand-based grow beds."
From there science from 2027-2034 really pushed the envelope of robust aquaponics allowing one steady food supply for space bound colonists.
