Talvyr

Talvyr are a humanoid beast race that consists of several subraces, such as: dogs, wolves, jackals, foxes, wild cats, bears, some species of birds, certain rodants, and pandas.   They have been extinct for thousands of years, but a few of their features live on through Hybrids. Talvyr were killed out in a massive war, which combined the Ephrynn and Talvyr races into Hybrids, humanoids with animal features.   In their prime, Talvyr were a sight to behold, with their immense strength and innate connection to nature magic. They were often regarded as kind and thoughtful, despite their beast-like appearence.   Most of their story is lost to time.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Talvyr stand on two legs, like humans and other humanoid races. They tend to be very muscular and tall, as the majority of them are built for combat. They have the ears and tail of whatever animal they're decended from. Female Talvyr are stronger than males, but shorter. Much like humans, elves, and other races, female Talvyr only have two breasts, unlike their animal counterparts.

Biological Traits

Carnivores tended to be taller and heavier than their plant eating counterparts, standing at around 7 feet tall. Their weight depended on their subrace and what their diet was like, because some carnivores did eat some plants.   Herbivores were shorter than carnivores, typically being about 4 to 5 feet tall, and weighing around 100 to 150 pounds, depending on their subrace.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Herbivores, of course, can only eat leaves and vegetables, as they tend to have issues digesting meat, it can make them sick or even kill them. Similarly, carnivores can typically only eat meat and animal fats, though plants won't kill them and can sometimes even save them from starvation in difficult times.   Herbivores tend to farm and gather their harvests at the appropriate times, saving their bounty for later in the year when new crops were growing, or when the harsh winter was preventing their crops from growing. They dug square burrows in the mud and dirt to store their excess food, making sure to seal it off and insulate it with hay and wood, so water and snow couldn't seep in. They were very protective of their food, and kept it close to the center of their villages.     Carnivores hunt and eat as needed, as their city was located in the south, where harsh winters were unheard of. If it was absolutely neccisary that they stored extra meat, they would smoke it over a giant bonfire in the center of the city, making it into a sort of ritual (and an excuse to drink and party). They had no natural preditors, so they felt little need to protect it, as even wild bears and wolves knew that the carnivorous Talvyr were much stronger than them.

Additional Information

Social Structure

Talvyr were lead by elders of both sexes, who were deemed wise and worthy enough to properly lead a whole village. For cities, a council of elders was appointed. Both males and female were regarded in equal standing, making for a much easier day to day life for everyone. They did not have nobles or rich individuals, as they simply wanted to stay alive and enjoy life. Other than the elders, everyone was equal.

Facial characteristics

Talvyr took the characteristics of their animal ancestors, meaning most had snouts like wolves or bears. They also shared the same teeth, as most had sharp teeth meant for ripping meat apart.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

Talvyr villages populated the eastern continent in some places. The herbivores lived among the pine forests and lakes in the north, while the carnivores lived in the south, close to the sea, where they could fish.

Average Intelligence

Talvyr were incredibly smart, with the combined intelligence of a humanoid and their animalistic instincts.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Typically, a Talvyr's senses depend on their subrace. Carnivores can usually see better at night and have enhanced hearing, while herbivores have better hearing and are good at sensing movement.

Civilization and Culture

Beauty Ideals

Talvyr thought that fluffy tails and soft fur was ideal. They tried to not place too much importance on things one couldn't change, and were highly accepting regardless of appearence. Their beauty ideals relied heavily on how you presented yourself and weather or not you were clean.

Gender Ideals

Male Talvyr were thought to be the cooks, as they were big and strong enough to move large amounts of wood for making a fire, and often had better hand eye coordination, allowing them to make precise cuts. Female Talvyr were seen as the ideal hunters, they were smaller and faster but just as strong. Of course, neither group was shamed for not fitting in.

Courtship Ideals

Female Talvyr were typically given the task of making the first move, because for them, a lifelong partner was their choice, as they would be carrying any children that came from the relationship. Male Talvyr were taught to wait for a woman to approach you and to not be pushy.

Relationship Ideals

Talvyr were paired for life, and were rarely known to be unfaithful, even though there was no repercussions for doing so.

Common Etiquette Rules

It was common to address your elders (parents, family friends, or village leaders) with respect, but only if you knew them personally. It was always acceptable if you didn't want to respect someone just because they were older than you.

Common Dress Code

They usually dressed in leather armor that allowed movement, with the occasional addition of metal armor, such as a shoulderpeice or gauntlets. Their leather clothes were meant to keep you cool, meaning they showed a lot of fur, which nobody saw as an issue. They typically didnt wear shoes of any kind.

History

Talvyr were one of the races placed on Tyreth when the God of Creation decided it was time to populate his perfect planet. The god that was sent to oversee them was Kryntar, the Lesser God of War. He spoke to the first Talvyr with a calm voice, telling them that while he was a god of war, his purpose was not to make them fighting machines, his purpose was to teach them the importance of using their strength alongside strategy.   Over the next thousand years, the Talvyr carved out a place in the world that was just for them. Their city grew, and the herbivores decided to move up north.   The southern Talvyr found comfort in their hobbies, such as building houses, fishing, basket weaving, and for a short period, sailing. As they expanded their reach, they came into contact with the Faeor, an all male race of humanoid deer (like a deer satyr), who they taught the art of basket weaving to. They traded with the Faeor until their downfall, becoming tightly intertwined with their culture.   The northern Talvyr learned how to farm, and even perfected it. They learned how to store their food, they practiced magic, and they figured out how to ice fish, as they did have a few otter Talvyr living with them. They too befriended the Faeor, and taught them how to farm.     In the year 1002 AG, Talvyr made contact with humans on the other side of the world. At first, the relationship was much like with the Faeor. They taught each other some tips and tricks and traded. After many years, a select group of human females became obsessed with the male Talvyr who were sent to meet with the humans. These Talvyr were highly trained diplomats, and always rejected the human's advances.   Disaster struck when untrained Talvyr were brought along to help transport goods. A young white fox Talvyr by the name Rytus Silverpaw was tempted by a human, as he was taught to always let the woman take the first move. When the town found out they had slept together, other human females started trying to tempt the transport team and sailors.   Too many were successful, and word started getting around. One of the women was pregnant. At first, nobody believed her, because it seemed impossible. Humans and Talvyr were totally unrelated, how could that possibly work? But 11 months later (the average gestation period for a Talvyr) she gave birth to a silver fox pup. The pup was named Rytar, after his father, Rytus.   The cycle continued because nothing was done to those who mixed the races.   After around 100 years, a new race was created and recognized by the gods. Hybrids.   This recognition started a war. Humans argued that they weren't a race, they were beasts created by lust. Talvyr argued that their offspring were just as important as any other living being. The war lasted 500 years, it saw many generations and many deaths, most of which were actually natural. During the war, the mixing of bloodlines didn't stop. Thousands of Hybrids were born during the war. Some were more Talvyr than human, and some looked like the Hybrids we know today. The war destroyed the history of the Talvyr, and their bloodline.   Hybrids replaced Talvyr and they were lost to the sands of time.

Historical Figures

Bjorn Axereave, a famous hunter among the Talvyr, known for creating the first two-handed battleaxe that Tyreth had seen, 432 AE   Indris Havoctooth, a Talvyrian prophet, known for his prediction of the war that would end up wiping out their entire race, 2523 AE   Rytus Silverpaw, blamed for the end of their race, 5337 AE

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

Before their downfall, Talvyr were fairly social and in good standing among most races, except for the tribal and utterly brutal Sallo, who saw them as a threat.
