Gnolls are a native hyena race that are in an alliance with the other beast races around it. This alliance is called the Brotherhood. This alliance includes the Minotaurs, Loxodon, Rhox, and Tytrons. They each fill a role within the alliance together. Most Gnolls act as shamans and seers for the other beast folk within the mixed tribe villages. The Gnolls, on average, tend to revel within nature and the life and death cycle.
History
The Gnolls alongside the other races within the Brotherhood are native to Tyrae. They used to occupy the eastern side of the continent before the humans, elves, and dwarves invaded. They hold a distrust to most other non beast races during this time. This invasion of their homeland pushed them to further reaches of the southern region of the east. They continued to lose ground, until another invasion force from the east attacked the humans, the Orc Federation. Some of the other natives joined sides with the other two to fight them. However after 500 years since the orcs touched down and the demon crisis that followed it, tensions have lifted somewhat between the major factions.
Culture
Gnolls believe in the cycle of life and death, and the community of those around you. Either the other races next to you or even nature itself. They also believe those that have lived full lives can teach those that have yet to die. Those that are selected can become what as known as Death Gnolls. Those that do get selected essentially become a lich, with a few differences. Instead of having a phylactery, they bind their souls onto their own body, forcing their spirit to stay here within the world. Death Gnolls start out as having the same personality as the recently departed. In time however, their soul eventually withers away and their individuality erodes away. They are not commanded but those that lose themselves tend to repeat whatever they were doing last.
Physical Description
Gnolls are a hyena like race that stand about the size of humans. They usually have spotted fur, and have a hunch to themselves. Most of their hair on their head actually travels down this hunch all the way to their lower back, similar to trolls, but not as much as them. They have digitigrade type feet.
