Elves

Protectors of nature and its beauty.

Author: Lunchboxmaster777
Although not native to Tyrae, the elf race has made it their own. They hold up the current chancellor in power over the Human-Elf Alliance. Almost all elves know some form of magic and are attuned to the magical threads of the world. Since they have such long lifespans they have a worldly view. Within their nation, they hold a society more closely related to our own. They have a senate and a monarchy who holds a high chancellor seat within the senate, very close to Rome back in the day.

History

From the big three races that traveled over the northern sea to get to Tyrae, humans, elves, and dwarves, there are some conflicting sources of the races origins. Elves think they were born from the lively nature and then made humans within their own image. The dwarves at the time were born from the mountains. All three races were on good terms before something happened between the dwarvers and elves. They all fled their home continent to make it to Tyrae. The Elves and Dwarves blamed each other and the bitter rivalry exists today. Within the Elven society, there were some that create governments and society, while some elves prefer to live within hamlets and villages within the vast forests of their now homeland.

Physical Description

With their unearthly grace and fine features, elves appear hauntingly beautiful to humans and members of many other races. They are slightly taller than humans on average, ranging from under 5 feet tall to just over 6 feet. They are more slender than humans, weighing only 100 to 145 pounds. Males and females are about the same height, and males are only marginally heavier than females. Elves can live well over 700 years, giving them a broad perspective on events that might trouble the shorter-lived races more deeply.

Elven Names

Elves are considered children until they declare themselves adults, some time after the hundredth birthday, and before this period they are called by child names. On declaring adulthood, an elf selects an adult name, although those who knew him or her as a youngster might continue to use the child name. Each elf’s adult name is a unique creation, though it might reflect the names of respected individuals or other family members. Little distinction exists between male names and female names; the groupings here reflect only general tendencies. In addition, every elf bears a family name, typically a combination of other Elvish words. Some elves traveling among humans translate their family names into Common, but others retain the Elvish version.

High Elves

Culture

The high elves take up the upper echelon of the government within elven society. Many start their lives going to a magic school of some kind to at least learn a little bit of magic when growing up. With their formal education and aristocratic lifestyle, this makes most high elves prideful and a little snooty, with some exception.

Appearances

Slightly taller than other elves, with a lithe figure. Most have an almost golden or yellow skin tones. Their hair color being a shade of blonde, white, or gray. Their eyes almost always being a shade of blue and slightly glow in the dark. Most Elves do not tie up their hair and usually don't cut it short. Men can sometimes have small beards but it is rare. All elves have long pointy ears that are about half the size of their head.

Wood Elves

Culture

Wood elves are more reclusive than their high elven brethren. They do make up the majority of the elven nation however. They love the forests that they call home. Some can learn magic, but a majority of them cannot manipulate magic. Most wood elves tend to be distrusting of races they are not familiar with, but are friendly when they make friends and get better acquainted with individuals.

Appearances

Lithe and fit frames make up the majority. Most lighter skin tones make up the wood elves, but can get as dark as a tan or olive hue. Half Elves

Culture

Half Elves are a product of a human and an elf. They tend not to live as along as their elven cousins, however they certainly live longer than normal humans. Most half elves are usually not allowed to rule in positions of power within the elven government, but can make fine military commanders, advisors, or ambassadors. Most tend to mingle themselves into human societies more than elven society.

Appearances

They are shorter than normal elves and tend to take up the makeup of their humans more than the elven sides. They tend to have a slightly lighter skin color of human parent and can have a brighter eye color as well. The only discernible difference between them and a human is their short pointy ears, longer than humans, but way shorter than a pure blood elf.

Dark Elves

Culture

These dark elves are corrupted elves that have been infused with demon blood of some kind either through ingestion or an offspring of a demon and an elf. Those that are willing try to bring back their demon overlords, while some who are unwilling tend to be exiles and want to be left alone. The dark elves are more affected by the demon blood than humans and because of this are harder to hide within elven society.

Appearances and Names

They are similar to any of the other elven races with a few exceptions. They tend to have a more gray to onyx skin tone, with a dark shade of blue, red, or purple. They have black veins, and the more corrupted they are, the veins get darker and more noticable. Their hair color tends to lose their color and tend to be white or gray. Their eyes glow in the dark and more often than not have a red, purple, yellow, or orange eyes. Those that are more corrupted tend to have black sclera and can have horns, claws, and a spaded tail. Most Elves do not tie up their hair and usually don't cut it short. Men can sometimes have small beards but it is rare. All elves have long pointy ears that are about half the size of their head.
