Atlas

God of endurance

Atlas was considered the fiercest of the Titans' warriors during their war with the Olympians - even Zeus was rumored to fear facing him in open battle. Yet it is not Atlas' raw strength that makes him so dangerous, but rather his unyielding resilience. The ability to endure even the harshest challenge is a gift Atlas seeks out in all those who wish to serve him.

Atlas’s Champions

Alignment: Neutral, often lawful
Suggested Classes: Barbarian, fighter, paladin
Suggested Cleric Domains: Forge, War
Suggested Backgrounds: Folk hero, gladiator, soldier

A champion of Atlas is someone who never backs down in the face of adversity, though their resilience need not be limited to bodily strength alone. Mental and emotional willpower are just as prized as physical fortitude in Atlas's eyes.

Atlas’s Favor

Atlas seeks out the strong, but recognizes that strength can come in many forms. It doesn't matter whether the source of their strength comes from the muscles on their body or the vigour of their mind, Atlas chooses those who will remain steadfast against any challenge.

Why did Atlas seek you out as a champion? The following table offers a few suggestions.
D6 Circumstance
1 You survived a long, tortuous imprisonment.
2 As a child you would always stand up to the local bullies, even when it meant getting hurt.
3 You once made a gruelling journey that almost cost you your life, but never thought about turning back.
4 You always stand your ground, even when it would be easier to just give up.
5 Your enemies keep knocking you down. You keep getting up again.
6 Sometimes you give up comforts for yourself so that those you care about can have an easier life.

Devotion to Atlas

Following Atlas means never giving up and meeting every challenge you face head-on. As a follower of Atlas, consider the ideals below as alternatives to those suggested for your background.

3 Determination. Once I know I'm right, I don't let anyone change my mind. (Lawful)
4 Courage. When faced with an enemy who wants to destroy you, there's no sense cowering. (Any)
5 Willpower. The words of my enemies mean nothing to me. (Any)
6 Impractical. The easiest solution isn't always the right one. (Lawful)

Earning and Losing Piety

You increase your piety score to Atlas when you expand his influence in the world in a concrete way through acts such as these:
  • Securing victory whilst severely disadvantaged
  • Surviving a trial of great physical or mental taxation
  • Enduring some pain or discomfort in order to relieve the burden of someone else, without telling them
Your piety score to Atlas decreases if you diminish his influence in the world or contradict his ideals through acts such as these:
  • Surrendering to a foe when there is only a risk to yourself
  • Taking the easy way out of a challenge when doing so goes against your principles
  • Being successfully intimidated by an unworthy opponent

Atlas’s Devotee

As a devotee of Atlas, you have declared to the world that you stand ready to face anything it can throw at you. You can cast absorb elements with this trait. You can cast the spell in this way a number of times equal to your Constitution modifier (minimum of once). You regain all expended uses when you finish a long rest. Constitution is your spellcasting ability for this spell.

Atlas’s Votary

Piety 10+ Atlas trait

You can cast intellect fortress with this trait. Once you cast the spell in this way, you can’t do so again until you finish a long rest. Constitution is your spellcasting ability for this spell.
In addition, you have advantage on saving throws against being frightened.

Atlas’s Disciple

Your service to Atlas has helped you perfect the art of pushing on in the face of adversity. Whenever you have one level or more of exhaustion, you treat the effects as if they were one level lower (to a minimum of 0). This does not remove the levels of exhaustion themselves, which should still be tracked as normal.
