Aitilafa
A Nomadic Land
The peoples of Aitilafa have developed their structures around the harsh, largely desert climate in the southeastern part of Vequist which makes up the territory of Aitilafa.
Geography and Ecology
The plains and deserts of Aitilafa encouraged most of its peoples to develop close relationships with the scant animal populations. These close relationships have ended with several new breeds of many livestock animals, such as sheep with thinner but softer wool and horses specialised in high-speed, long-distance travel along flat but soft terrain.
History
The territory that now comprises Aitilafa has not been a major geopolitical actor on Vequist during much of the age of mortals. Its relative reclusivity has been a result of internal struggles within the territory, alternately for survival or between smaller factions and city-states within the reigon.
Creation of the League
The creation of the Aitilafan League was a result of a decade-long war between three rivalling factions which gained to each members far beyond their immediate clans. These factions were the Kitwana, the Honiya and the Elea and were led by the clans for which the alliances were named. After twelve years of fighting, the leaders of the Kitwana and Elea met secretly and coordinated to bring down the Honiya. Just before the Honiya were destroyed, the news of the meetings got out and the alliances collapsed under the weight of the war and distrust.
It was in that time that some leaders of the tribes least involved with the fighting met in the volcanic peninsula to discuss peace and neutrality agreements between their people and created a league eventually known as the Aitilafan League. As the allied houses removed themselves from conflict, they began to prosper and their enforced neutrality grew more popular, sweeping up most of the clans within what has become Aitilafa and the final form of the Aitilafan League was taken. Some few holdouts mounted a resistance that was swiftly cowed and their territories split up over several tribes which had been in their vicinity.
