Berdusk

The Jewel of the Vale

Berdusk is known as the Jewel of the Vale as it sits on both the Uldoon Trail and the River Chionthar in the Sunset Vale. Twilight Hall is located here, and the Harpers previously used the city as their base of many operations in the west and the north. Their priorities has since shifted elsewhere. A person from Berdusk is known as a Berduskan.

The city is a trading hub for the farming communities in the Vale and the dwarven communities of the Sunset Mountains and in Easting, and a hub for trade going westwards to Baldur's Gate and Waterdeep, and east to Cormyr and Sembia, and south to the lands of intrigue, notably to Amn via the Uldoon Trail to Nashkel.

The city is the seat of the noble House Ilvani, and several other noble houses, the so called "First Families" of Berdusk. They are not fond of their new masters, Elturgard and their harsh moral and economic control of the region and on the trade barges going down the River Chionthar.

The holy realm of Elturgard now controls the city. They are unamused by the lack of piety among the Berduskans.

Industry & Trade

Berdusk is an important trading center, much involved in the shipment of goods. High-sided local waybarges are winched carefully through the rapids, which have been known to smash normal rafts and barges, sending crew and cargo to the freshwater kelpies below. Businesses in the city also make many wagons (considered fair to poor by most merchants) and excellent barges, and do extensive wagon repairs. Their wheels are very fine. The fertile land and climate in the Sunset Vale also make the farms and wineries in the area some of the most productive in the Heartlands.

History

Long before Berdusk was founded two other settlements stood in its placement. The first was an elven moot hall, the second a human fishing village. The mighty warrior Berdusk Orcslayer died in the year of 1259 DR, and the town of Sulduskoon was renamed Berdusk in his honor by the merchant council that ruled the town. Berdusk had helped drive out the orcs from the Sunset Vale and made it safe to establish settlements in the area.
