Duke Tarnen Suthis

Tarnen Suthis is the current holder of the duchy of Suthis, the birthplace of the current King of Koth, Orust Suthis. He is the king's younger brother and uncle to the two Suthian heirs, Suthian heir and Belinon Suthis. Duke Tarnen is unmarried, but known to keep a mistress and may have bastard children.

Personal history

Orust and Tarnen were the two children of the previous Duke of Suthis and his wife, a former sanguine acolyte. Orust was the elder by three years, and thus was destined to inherit the archonate title and the lands that came with it. As younger son, Tarnen did not expect to inherit, given that his father and elder brother were both in good health. His parents often argued about whether he should join the Kothic military or the acolytes, but as he got older, he was increasingly ill-disposed to either. In his late teens, he was send to stay with a friend of the family in Nakiri, one of the major cities in Ellador. This gave him a taste for travel, and he was away from Koth in 507KE, when his brother made his bid for the throne. He returned to find that Orust was now king, which made him next in line to inherit the archonate -- and become his brother's vassal. This put an end to his extended wanders, although he still travels more than many Kothian nobles. After the birth of Belinon Suthis, Tarnen was assumed to be third in line for the Suthian throne, after his brother's two children. Inheriting his father's title several years later dramatically increased his eligibility for marriage, which he has so far resisted.
