Karnkvynne

The Karnkvynne is a long haired, omnivorous mammal found primarily in the Syenn Var. While the majority of their diet consists of the local foliage, it regularly hunts for meat, which it prefers. They are part of the Hyperbos family.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Karnkwynne males can reach lengths of about 6 meters, while females upwards of 10 meters. The entire body of a karnkwynne is covered maw-like openings, which is covered by the fur. When feeding the karnkwynne is able to straighten its hairs to allow the Maws to feed.
Karnkwynne have 6 legs, which sprout on opposite sides of its body. The head sits slightly above the beasts shoulders, a large maw with several lines of dagger like teeth splits the skull in half. [Br] The karnkwynne has 4 eyes. 2 look forward, while the other two sit on opposite sides of its head. While in relation to its head, the eyes look rather small, they are easily the size of an apple. [Br] Like other members of the Hyperbos family, the karnkvynne is a vertebrate. It's front legs are situated in common shoulders, the back limbs are large and muscular. The center limb, when examined looks almost like an extension of the beasts ribs.

Genetics and Reproduction

Karnkvynnes are loners, the young are abandoned by their mother after only a couple of months. In comparison, it takes upwards of 7 years for them to fully mature into adulthood. [Br] Female karnkvynnes enter mating season once per year, unless they have had young in over 5 years. Males fight to the death over the right to mate with a female in season. [Br] Karnkvynnes give live birth, a litter can have from 1 to 4 cubs.

Growth Rate & Stages

Karnkvynnes do not have a recorded lifespan. There have been no instances where they have died of old age. The most common death for karnkvynnes is in battle with their kin. A close second is pneumorithilis syemnis, a sickness which affects the lungs. [Br]

Ecology and Habitats

The karnkvynne is exclusively found in the syenn var, outside of captivity. It prefers the lowlands and riverbasins due to the larger numbers of prey. [Br] When a karnkvynne makes its way through the syenn var they devour and everything in their path, leaving a trail wherever it passed. This allows certain animals easier passage through the thicket.

Dietary Needs and Habits

While the karnkvynne is essentially an omnivore, eating everything from the grass of he syenn value to entire insect hives, it prefers meat and hunts habitually for prey such as Lowbeast. There have been reports of karnkvynne cannibalism. [Br] Nonetheless, the majority of its diet is made up of the foliage of the syenn var.

Biological Cycle

On the crest o summer, the karnkvynne, like most other animals of the syenn var, seek the safety of a river opening or tall hill, to wait out the yearly flares.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

The karnkvynne has a very well developed sense of smell, on the feelers that are situated just above its maw. It is able to sense blood from over 6 leagues away. It does not rely heavily on eyesight do to the limit the Ras poses. [Br] The karnkvynne is rumoured to have certain latent magical abilities. It certainly has the necessary intelligence.
