Aran-Krednik Settlement in Trymis | World Anvil

Aran-Krednik

If there's any place in the empire that knows the beauty of little things, this is it.
— Rogaldina Megadodo
A small village in the far south, along the mountains of West Yeritas. It is known for its quiet and tradition of delicate woodwork.

Demographics

The village of Krednik is home to roughly 540 adults, with another 160 minors and elderly making up the rest of the population. There are a grand total of 7 nobles with an extended residence in Krednik stemming from 4 different houses. None of these cite Krednik as their primary residence, if they acknowledge their presence at all.

Being quite out of the way with no easy access to major waterways or rails, Krednik gets little traffic. It does however have one inn, the Feeble Castle, and a small number of guest rooms in the town hall.

Government

Currently, Krednik is ruled by one Corben Rahtek, the resident noble. The majority of the town population see him as somewhat weak-willed, not having done much since his appointing after the death of the Lady Yasnah of house Melmar, the last noble. His one large project so far has been beginning to build a sewer system. In favour of this he has let the walls to fall into disrepair, his subjects taking the initiative to protect their homestead voluntarily, and setting up construction crews.

Industry & Trade

While not receiving a lot of trade, Krednik is well known for its artisan woodwork. The wooden dolls and figures have no equal in the entirety of the empire, which makes them highly demanded as collector's items among certain noble circles. Enough to keep the town running, the carving mills make up the majority of occupation in Krednik. Other than that, there are three noble houses which own plantations to the north of the town, which are responsible for keeping the population fed.

Infrastructure

Other than the roads, the town has access to a basic water delivery system, though it only works in summer as in winter the water freezes over. Water must then be brought into town as ice. As of 587, a new sewer system is under construction by order of the new governor, lord Corben Rahtek. Far from being operational, several man-hours are being poured into the excavation of underground tunnels.

Architecture

Aran-Krednik is built in a traditional style stemming from the Sumbre Forests. The timbre houses and cabins are washed in mostly warm tones, such as red, mocha, or yellowish orange, with vertical support beams and other highlights being whitewashed. None of the houses exceed two stories. The dark grey and black shingled slanted roofs match well with the cobblestone chimneys adorning them.

Geography

Aran-Krednik is hidden away between a mountain and the edge of the Sumbre forest. Both of these features protect it from the frigid winds in the winter, and make for a rather cosy little village.
