The Passing

History

This tradition started for the issue of overpopulation, where people that were unable to work efficiently would be "given" back to the land that they lived on. Started when the population extended the limits of the city. 500,000 is its max but 300,000 is the aim, the oldest a person could be is 40-50 depending on how efficient you were at your job. In time this was also used to control the population and clean up the population from undesirable. Anyone that wanted to find out the truth of the world or where they even came from what was the before.

Execution

The Queen was created before and is the main voice of the Arch, as such she is to step through the process of the Passing. Being there to give the chosen the chance to meet with her for their trip. The stage is the center of attention, where the chosen are to take their leap of faith into the hard of their land and city.  Not all can take it upon themselves and will be given assistance.

Components and tools

The Passing center is the most important, a couple of stories tall with a replica of the city on top. Twenty doors, that slid open in the event, circle around evenly spaced. The center is the largest open area that is to fit the population in standing room.   In some cases, the chosen will be drugged to make the passing easier and without fear. If there is a large group to get through then a general happy sort of state will be given to make sure the onlookers aren't given any reason to fear when it will be their time.    A grand street festive is held the hour after the Passing has concluded, encouraging the masses to celebrate those lost.

Participants

Everyone in town is to attend, the day is chosen far in advance and every member of society is to be there. Members of royalty are always present. The Queen is always meant to lead, but if she is unable to due to reincarnation then the eldest princess it to in her stead.
