Known typically as simply 'Tecard', Throforlig is the half Acarian, half Greinar Dwarven leader of
Acaria. He has ruled Acaria for over 100 years, but his lineage, name and longevity are shrouded in a secrecy enforced by brutal legal punishment.
Parentage and early life
Throforlig's mother,
Eristregith Shattercoat was an emissary from the Dwarven citadel of
Vilknier to the city of Tecard. She became enamoured with the new Archduke,
Sercan of Tecard, and had a whirlwind affair. This caused quite the scandal, and she was quickly withdrawn from service by Vilknier. However, this was not before she fell pregnant with Sercan's child. Throforlig Sapphireborn was born in the year 129 in Vilknier, where he endured a difficult childhood amongst the dwarves. His Acarian heritage meant he outgrew his peers quickly, but an inability to grow facial hair drew him particular persecution. His inclination to solve disagreements with violence did not dim as he aged, and at twenty years old he was expelled from Vilknier by
Grundkhan Diamondhorn, the cousin of the king.
Sercan was devastated when Eristregith left, a woman he genuinely loved. Despite many advances and plenty encouragement from his court, he only fathered two other children. In 149, Eristregith and Throforlig arrived unexpected and unannounced in Tecard. Sercan was ecstatic, his court rather less so, and he quickly neglected his other children, raising Eristregith as his primary partner.
In 153, with Sercan away in Narland negotiating the terms of their accession to Federation, his two other sons allied with separate factions of Acarian nobles and attempted to overthrow his rule. Eristregith was killed, but Throforlig slayed both of his brothers within the throne room. When Sercan returned from Narland, he was devastated by the loss of his love, and handed over most administrative power to Throforlig immediately. He died just one year later, many say of a broken heart.
