Lassan Baron

Lassan Barons and Baronesses are the lowest ranking lords who hold sway over a region. Each Barony will measure around 2000 square miles, and there are around 50 baronies in Lasse. There are also a few Earls and Dukes who control larger areas or cities.   Each Baron has a court of minor nobles, often including generations of their extended family, who assist with running the Barony. The courts are often places of some revelry, with regular dinners and dances held in the Baron's halls or castle.

Appointment

The eldest child inherits the Barony on their parents death. Barons and Baronnesses tend to rule together, but the title officially passes down the familial line, so if that parent dies then the child officially takes over. Widowed parents often still wield significant power.

Duties

The Baron is responsible for overseeing the entire region. The collect tithes from all local farms and businesses, and in return ensure that infrastructure and law is maintained. They also organise the regular festivals, happening roughly every fortnight throughout the year.
