Dice Rot

Dict Rot is a high stakes gambling game played by thrill seekers in Narland.

Execution

The standard rules of the game require each player to ante up an agreed amount of gold. They may also choose to bet other things, such as information, contracts, or alcohol. Traditionally, both players must keep their left hand on the table at all times, and removing your hand counts as a loss.   Each player begins with the d12, and both roll simultaneously. The lower number wins, and the higher number player takes a penalty. If a player loses by 2 or less, they may choose their penalty - they can either go down a die, or take a bug. If they lose by 3 or more, then they go down a die and take a bug. If the rolls are the same, then you re-roll. The game ends when either one player must go down a die from the d4, or a player passes out.   Going down a die is straightforward - you go from d12 to d10, d10 to d8 and so on. Taking a bug means that the winning player uses long tweezers to take a single rot bug from the jar and place it onto the back of the losing player's left hand. That player takes 1d4 piercing damage as the bug burrows into their hand.   After each round, any players who has taken a bug takes 1d6 piercing damage for each bug as the bugs burrow further up their arm. If the player drops to 0 hit points, the bugs have reached their heart.   Once the game has ended, each player may attempt to extract the bugs from their arm using a hot skewer. They take 1 point of fire damage for each bug they extract. Experienced players typically carry around an Elixir of Health which can be used to kill any rot bugs that are too deep to reach, or any other effect which cures a disease is sufficient.
