Trosilin

Scope

The motivation behind building Trosilin

I want to make a world in which I can experiment with the ways in which culture and language change, examine the ways in which both influence each other, and just plain make interesting cultures

The goal of the project

I am not creating for anyone else, I am making this for myself and myself only.

Trosilin's Unique Selling point

It is basically an alternate history of our world. What if there was a massive, completely isolated continent that developed speech, culture and civilization all by itself?

Theme

Genre

Alternate History, no magic, slight Low Fantasy influences, definitely Hard Sci-Fi, somewhat

Reader Experience

It should instill a sense of wonder, wanderlust and curiosity, but still There should be an overwhelming sense of history to the world

Reader Tone

I would say the tone of the world is somewhere in the middle, but skewing towards dark. There are dark elements, but there is also a brightness to be found everywhere The world is not kind, but the people overwhelmingly are, even if they are misguided

Recurring Themes

1. Trying to relive the glorydays of a long-lost empire/civilization/culture 2. The ubiquity of the mountains 3. Elaborate traditional rites 4. Travelling storytellers

Character Agency

N/A, not designed for rpgs

Focus

Language and culture, the ways they influence each other, how cultures with the same language differ from each other, and how cultures with different languages can be pretty similar.
Military: cultures are trying to relive the glorydays of empires with various wars, territorial disputes and revolutionary uprisings as a result.
Military: new people from the other continents of the world have discovered Trosilin and have sent a convoy to explore and report back. Threats of invasion are looming and with the territorial wars already happening, people don't know where to go and who to trust
Law, religion and technology: a strongly tradition-oriented continent is being confronted with new technology, certain elements of which are expressly forbidden by either law or religion

Drama

The continent of Trosilin has been discovered by the people of the other continents, adn they have sent a group of scholars and researchers to be the first to make contact with this entirely new civilization
There is a dispute over the crown in a kingdom in the Northern Tolinn part of Trosilin, which has dragged many other territories into its squabbling. With their focus on something else, the population is neglected and with the vacuum of power, local lords are doing as they wish
The wars the Western Tolinn are raging, only seeming to ramp up in intensity as time goes on. The coffers are full and there is seemingly no way to stop them from trying to re-enact the Lwesion Empire.
The paranoia inherent in the Yones culture is reaching a high, treason is a capital offense and more and more people are being arrested for it every week. The tensions in the central lands are high and there seems to be something brewing on the periphery
The funding of the exploration mission is done by a large university, which may not have everyone's best interests in mind and seems to only be looking for more money to line its pockets
