Harengon
Harengons are nimble, rabbit-like creatures with a natural gift for agility and luck. Their powerful legs allow them to leap great distances, making them swift and unpredictable both in combat and daily life, while their keen senses, particularly their sharp hearing, help them stay alert to dangers that others might miss.
Natives of the chaotic whimsy of the Feywild, Harengons carry with them an adventurous spirit, often seeking excitement in the unknown. They are wanderers by nature, rarely content to stay in one place for long. While some make their homes in small, tight-knit communities, others have integrated into settlements of other races on the Material Plane; they thrive as traders, scouts, or messengers often serving as couriers to powerful Archfey or Elves between the Planes.
The Rabbit-folk value freedom and fun, rarely weighing themselves down by strict rules or rigid traditions. They are drawn to stories, riddles, and games of wit, favoring cleverness over that of brute strength. While they may not always take life seriously, when it comes to their friends and loved ones, the Harengon are fiercely loyal. Whether leaping into adventure or darting away from peril, Harengon will always embrace the thrill of the journey.
Basic Information
Anatomy
Harengon are bipedal rabbits with expressive faces, large, attentive ears, and powerful hind legs. Their fur ranges in color from soft browns and whites to darker shades of gray and black, often with mottled or patchy patterns. Their eyes, are large and sensitive to movement.
Genetics and Reproduction
There is an old saying of the rapid proliferation of mundane rabbits in Trorune of 'breeding like rabbits'. The Harengon do not stray far from this common folk-saying either as they mature quickly and breed rapidly, if given the opportunity and resources are plentiful. Often giving birth to multiple kits, averaging between three and five kits per pregnancy after a short four-month pregnancy and able to give birth again after a refractory period of a month or so.
Growth Rate & Stages
Harengon mature quickly, reaching adulthood around four years old and their kind's rapid population growth is heavily curtailed by their lower average life expectancy between thirty and sixty years. However, their life expectancy can be heavily influenced the time-altering effects of the Feywild and the Harengon's occupational hazards.
Ecology and Habitats
The Rabbt-folk often inhabit the forests and grassy plains of Trorune's continents, though there are reports of small warrens of them that live in the frozen tundra regions across the world. However, most Harengon still occupy the Feywild today and the ones that crossover and live on the Material Plane tend to occupy areas of deep forest with magically powerful Ley Lines to make their crossings more consistent and safer.
Dietary Needs and Habits
The vast majority of Harengon are herbivorous, with grasses, leafy greens, and tree-parts and byproducts making up the vast majority of their diet. Though they will supplement their diets with small amounts of meat-proteins on occasion.
Behaviour
While many Harengon display an easygoing and carefree demeanor, they are far from careless. They are quick thinkers and even quicker movers, instinctively avoiding danger and using their hair-trigger reflexes to their advantage. Their natural luck, a lingering effect of their Fey ancestry, often tips fate in their favor at just the right moment.
Additional Information
