Chromatic Dragons

The Chromatic dragons are beasts, or rather, creatures of great strength. They had ruled the lands of Ignis before man began to spread, and still, these mighty creatures are incredibly respected across all of Tritum. These creatures are generally greedy, and are powerful enough for heroes an adventurers to avoid bringing an end to their tyranny. However, there will always be those brave enough to challenge the great beasts whether it be a young chromatic dragon, or an ancient. It is believed these creatures worship Tiamat, a five headed dragon queen, and a god at that.
"If you see the five chromatic dragons dwelling together, something horribly wicked, or awful must be coming. For their breaths could have been what created Ignis, and what will end it." ~ Avan Draconas 10,478 DL
The chromatic dragon includes the following: (And their believe hiearchy)
  • The Red Dragon: Red Dragons tend to be the largest and the physically strongest of the chromatic family. They hold care for no more than their vanity, hordes, and their own well-being. They tend to dwell in mountain ranges, and breath violent cones of fire.
  • Black dragons: Also known as skull dragons, the blag dragon, has a vile temper and are the most sickeningly cruel of all chromatic dragons. These agile creatures are excellent swimmers who normally lived in swamps and marshes, they prefer ambush attacks. They have a corrosive, acid breath to be wary of.
  • Blue dragons: Or storm dragons, are manipulative, lawful evil chromatics who were infamous for their skill at creating hallucinations, and their cruel use of such things. They prefer aerial combat, which allowes them to use their electrical breath weapon most efficiently. Blue dragons most often lived in arid wastelands and deserts.
  • Green Dragons: Green dragons are highly territorial, deceptive, forest-dwelling creatures who love secrets and intrigue. Although lawful evil, they are duplicitous and cunning foes who love combat. Their breath weapon was a cone of poisonous green gas
  • White dragons: Also called ice dragons or glacial wyrms, are the smallest and weakest of the classic chromatic dragons. However, they are by no means harmless. White dragons are extremely well-suited to their arctic habitat and had excellent memories. They are more feral than other dragons, though, They breathe a cone of ice or frost.

Basic Information

Anatomy

The chromatic dragons have non-reflective scales, and are of a solid colour in depending on their sub species.

Genetics and Reproduction

Although the specifics of mating rites and relationships vary from one kind of dragon to another, several commonalities exist. Young dragons can mate, and might do so out of sheer biological urge—or even, at times, for love—but they are rarely prepared to rear young. They might abandon clutches of eggs wherever the eggs will have a decent chance of survival. Few eggs left in this way survive—and dragons that hatch from them might not learn to fend for themselves well enough before becoming prey.   Dragons lay eggs in small clutches, the exact number varying according to the kind of dragon. Females can lay eggs as often as once per year but rarely do so that frequently. Dragons have a greater degree of influence over their own reproductive systems than humanoids do. Although a female dragon cannot completely control whether or not mating produces fertile eggs, the chance of fertilization falls dramatically if the dragon does not wish to reproduce. One of the parents—usually the female—typically locates the nest deep in the lair. The nest consists of a mound or pit where the parent gathers the eggs and buries them in sand, dirt, snow, leaves, or whatever medium is best suited to the dragon and to the environment.    The eggs will change appearance depending on their chromatic species: often correlating with their obvious colour. When first laid, a dragon egg has resistance to the damage type produced by the parents’ breath weapon

Growth Rate & Stages

The dragons stages of development include:
  • Wyrmling: A newly hatched dragon has a full array of abilities. Although inferior to those of a young dragon, these abilities are sufficient for the wyrmling to take care of itself, at least against relatively weak threats and predators. Although an emerging wyrmling is sodden and somewhat awkward, it can run within hours of hatching and can fly within a day or two. A wyrmling’s senses are fully acute, and—due to the interweaving of a dragon’s centers of memory and instinct—it is born with a substantial amount of its parents’ knowledge imprinted in its mind.
  • Young: By the time a wyrmling becomes a young dragon, it has grown to roughly the size of a horse, and its hoarding, lairing, and territorial instincts are stoked into a raging fire. A young dragon must leave the nest (if it has not already done so) before territoriality and greed transform the parent–child relationship into a bitter rivalry.
  • Adult: Adult dragons revel in the fact that they are among the mightiest predators in existence, particularly if they have had a successful youth. When seeking to add to their hoards, they are more selective in their targets than younger wyrms, preferring not to waste their time with travelers or caravans that look unlikely to provide a decent amount of wealth— though they might still attack such groups for food or sport.
  • Ancient: By the time it becomes ancient, a dragon ranks among the most powerful creatures to walk the earth. Its lair is nigh impregnable. Its hoard contains more wealth than any kingdom since the fall of the great empires. Its name (or at least one of them) is known far and wide among dragons and humanoids both. The dragon has survived longer than most nations.

Ecology and Habitats

Chromatic dragons tend to spread in their environmental preferences as to not fight one another for territory and because of their genetic make up. Red dragons prefer mountains, while their kin may prefer desert or ice.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Chromatic dragons will hunt on other meats and livestock as they please. They do not tend to horde food, but hunt for what they want, and it there and then. WHether it be mountain goats, or bears, the dragon will eat any meat it finds will aid hunger.

Biological Cycle

Dragons shed scales in their agin rpocess, but not with the season. Dragons will hibernate when they find their horse is large enough... for now.

Behaviour

The chromatic dragons are well know for their extensively valuable hordes, ffull of riches to satiate their greed, and hunger for power. These creatures tend to be less kind to man kind than other families of dragons, unless a bargain is struck to improve upon their hord, or benefit their personal desires.

Additional Information

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

The chromatic dragons are universally known to have blindsight, a sense for what is around them, hidden or not. They are also known to have excellent vision n the dark, their piercing, glowing eyes shining bright in the darkest of caves. Many dragons understand the common tongue too!
Conservation Status
The chromatic dragons are plentiful in number North of Ignis, in the Dragon Peaks.
