Adamant Algae
Adamant Algae is a rare algae that grows in waters that are near adamantine. It is said the innate magic of adamantine encourages this algaes growth. It produces a strange red liquid in the water, similar to blood. It is believed this algae has quite the natural healing properties. However, keeping the algae alive once removed proves a rather difficult task for many herbalists, alchemists, and keepers of horticulture. The algae will only survive for bout an hour without the presence of admantine. There are rumours of it being more plentiful in Tenebris than Ignis, but it is most commonly found in the Platinum Mountains.
Basic Information
Anatomy
This algae is a grey in colour, until it reaches it edges, where the algae fades to red, and a liquid pours from it, taintin the waters with a blood like liquid.
Genetics and Reproduction
Like other Algae, this algae reproduces asexually through a splitting process in its cells known as mitosis. The rate at which Adamant Algae does this is much slower than other algaes however, and it has the special requirement to have adamantine in its presence somewhere.
Growth Rate & Stages
Adamant Algae does not spread like other algae, it cannot expand over great distances. Instead, it grows in small clumps, often on rocks, or minerals.
Ecology and Habitats
Adamant algae thrives in smaller pool ecosystems of water, and ecourages growth in it's environment. It is often found in mountain ranges or caves, where the air is cols, and minerals thrive.
Dietary Needs and Habits
This algae s autotophic, feeding of the little nutrient it needs in its watery environment. It uses the magical energy adamantine produces as oppossed to processing sunlight to give it energy. This energy gives it nourishment, and the ability to grow.
Biological Cycle
This algae thrives in colder pools of water, and is never found in salt water. It thrives in Winter and Autumn, as oppossed to the warmer seasons. This juxtoposes the nature of lots of algae that flourish in warmer waters.
Additional Information
Perception and Sensory Capabilities
It is known to have healing properties, and often brings more life to whatever pool it grows in, whether it be fish life, or other plant life.
Conservation Status
The species is not protected as it is already so rare, and difficult to find as adamantine is rare.
