In the world of Trinity, distrust is ubiquitous in society ever since the Rupture, a catastrophic event that coincided with the demise of the Half-Blood Kings. In the Third and final Great Northern War, Half-Bloods were forced to fight both Eren and Men at the same time, and ended up trying a risky move: they sent a strong force to face the Eren, but only a small army of experienced mages to deal with their other enemy, Man. This small strike force was supposed to channel power from mages all over the Half-Blood homeland, and focus it into one place, like a magnifying glass. Something went wrong, and what followed was the Rupture.
The Rupture caused every person practicing magic at that moment (even the simplest protection charms) to be affected by some form of mental damage, ranging from mild mental trauma to complete insanity. The fate of the Half-Blood mages actively involved in the process was much worse: they, and everything living in their immediate surrounding, was turned into stone in a matter of seconds.   After the Rupture, magic was frowned upon. Following the conclusion of this event, the traditionally magically-adept Eren quickly swore off their use of it in fear of another Rupture. Additionally, they locked other species out of their world. In the west, the great Houses of Man continued their dangerous political game that often resulted in bloody war. In the present day, both magic and Half-Bloods are heavily looked down in society. While lesser magic is sometimes tolerated, Half-Bloods are generally hunted down and executed, out of fear for a repetition of the past.
