The Uprisen Gnomes

Basic Information

Anatomy

Height: 3'0" - 4'0". Usually slightly built (~40lbs) but can be heavier. Usually tanned to darker brown complexions.  

General Features

  • Size: You are a Small creature.
  • Speed: Your base walking speed is 25 feet.
  • Languages: You know the common trade language, the Trian language, and any other language of your choice.
  • Ability Score Increase: Increase your Intelligence stat by 2. Choose either Dexterity or Wisdom and increace that stat by 1.
  • Nimble: You can move through the space of any creature that is of a size larger than yours.

Republican Nationalist

A modern, progressive Trian living primarily above ground in the Free Trian Peoples' Republic.
  • Well Educated: Whenever you make an Intelligence (Science or History) check related to extradimensional, scientific, or technological items, you can add twice your proficiency bonus instead of any other proficiency bonus that may apply.
  • Gnome Cunning: You have advantage on all Intelligence, Wisdom, and Charisma saves against symbiotic powers and effects.
 

Traditionalist

Trians who have returned to Pre-Sibran life, living primarily below ground off the subterranean land as in millenia past.
  • Mask of the Wild: You can attempt to hide even when you are only lightly obscured by foliage, heavy rain, falling snow, mist, and other natural phenomena.
  • Naturally Stealthy: You can attempt to hide even when you are only obscured by a creature that is at least one size larger than you.
  • Sunlight Sensitivity: You have disadvantage on Attack rolls and Wisdom (Perception) checks that rely on sight when you, the target of your attack, or whatever you are trying to perceive is in direct sunlight.

Growth Rate & Stages

Using human-relevant analogues, Trians would be considered infants from age 0-1 years, toddlers from age 2-5, children from age 6-15, adolescents from age 16-23, young adults from 24-50, and mature adults after age 51. Trians are generally considered elderly after 150 years and can live up to ~185 years old.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

The native and now dominant species on Tria, most Trians choose to stay on or near their homeworld although a few can be spotted adventuring throughout the wider galaxy.

Civilization and Culture

History

Trians as a race have not ventured too far from their homeworld (Tria) and many of those that have been off planet were only able to tour other parts of the galaxy as forced labour or enslaved technicians. For most of their recorded history, Trian's have been subjugated by a Feln colony that claimed the planet about 750 years ago. At that point, the native Trians were content to live simple, mostly subterranian lives. However, after being discovered by the Feln colonists, the gnomish population was coerced into assisting the colony with their various projects and soon was forcibly "uplifted" into the broader realities of galactic life. Although there were numerous attempted rebellions over the centuries long occupation of Tria, successful emancipation was finally achieved 183 years ago when a well organized group of Trian revolutionaries acquired a large cache of weapons and other technologies from an unknown, but widely assumed Coalition, source and finally managed to reclaim much of their world. After 3 years of bitter conflict, a ceasefire was declared with the Feln colonists still occupying the northernmost lands under their colony's name: Sibra.   Although, the popular assumption is that the Coalition financed and supplied the uprising with the expectation of getting a valuable ally in the Independent Systems, the Trian revolutionaries managed to reverse engineer most of the Coalition's technology and develop some creative alterations of their own, culminating in the development of a planet-wide energy shield that effectively cut off the surface from any outside force/faction. The newly formed Trian government opted for an existence as isolated from the galactic superpowers as possible, funneling all extra-terrestrial trade through a single space elvator that made landfall on the small continent of Tria Djono which acts as customs/border security for the planet.   Trians fiercely value their independence from other races, and often have a very sharp mind especially for tinkering and invention.   Trians are tentatively at peace with the remaining Feln on Tria, although actively hostile towards the broader United Feln Federal Regions. Trians have a cool but usually workable relationship with the Coalition and its member states. Trians are generally neutral towards humans and the other Independent Systems races.
