Daerpon

Basic Information

Anatomy

Humans would consider these to be lizardfolk.
Height: 4'0" - 6'0".
Usually colored in shades of green; some vibrant, some desaturated. Some have horns and/or tails but not all.
A common fashion statement is to tattoo/dye growing, subdermal scales with bright colours and distinctive patterns that appear after their current skin is shed.

General Features

  • Size: You are a Medium creature.
  • Speed: Your base walking speed is 30 feet.
  • Languages: You know the common trade language, one of the Daerpon languages (choose from Hiss or Snap), and any other language of your choice.
  • Ability Point Increase: Increase your Strength, Dexterity, and Constitution stats by 1.

Optional Variant Features

Choose a maximum of one variant.

Webbers

  • Amphibious: You can breathe air and water.
  • Water Dependency: If you fail to immerse yourself in water for at least 1 hour during a day, you suffer 1 level of exhaustion at the end of that day. You can recover from this exhaustion only through symbiotic means of healing or by immersing yourself in water for at least 1 hour.
  • Speed: You have a walking speed of 25 feet. Your webbed hands and feet give you a swim speed of 35 feet.
  • Toxin Resilience: You have advantage on saving throws against poison, and you have resistance to poison damage.

Scalies

  • Natural Armor: You have tough, scaly skin. When you aren't wearing armor, your AC is 13 + your Dexterity modifier. You can use your natural armor to determine your AC if the armor you wear would leave you with a lower AC. A shield's benefits apply as normal while you use your natural armor.
  • Bite: Your fanged maw is a natural weapon, which you can use to make unarmed strikes. If you hit with it, you deal piercing damage equal to 1d6 + your Strength modifier, instead of the bludgeoning damage normal for an unarmed strike.

Spikers

  • Horns: Your horns are natural melee weapons, which you can use to make unarmed strikes. If you hit with them, you deal piercing damage equal to ld6 + your Strength modifier, instead of the bludgeoning damage normal for an unarmed strike.
  • Menacing: You gain proficiency in the Intimidation skill.

Moreyes

  • Darkvision: Accustomed to life underground, you have superior vision in dark and dim conditions. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can't discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.
  • Sunlight Sensitivity: You have disadvantage on Attack rolls and Wisdom (Perception) checks that rely on sight when you, the target of your attack, or whatever you are trying to perceive is in direct sunlight.
  • Aggressive: As a bonus action, you can move up to your speed toward an enemy of your choice that you can see or hear. You must end this move closer to the enemy than you started.

Civilization and Culture

History

While considered to be a single race and indeed are within the same genetic family, the Daerpon actually appear to have originated on at least 13 different planets spread throughout almost as many star systems. The Daerpon from a specific world usually have distinct features and/or colourings that set them apart from other Daerpon. Researchers are trying to determine if these different species all arose independently or if someone/something had seeded these worlds with Daerpon at some point in the distant past. Daerpon are generally found on the Independent Worlds but have spread out throughout the known galaxy and can be found, in at least small clusters, on most Coalition worlds and even many UFFR colonies.   Although they can often appear to be calculating and emotionless to most mammalian species, Daerpon are quite socially, culturally, and politically diverse. While traditonal family units are not very long-lived, what with most of the young leaving the nest by age 5 and their parents disbanding shortly thereafter (if not before), many Daerpon create "found families" over the course of their lives that they will remain fiercely loyal to. Depending on the planetary, cultural environment, this has lead to many, drastically different outcomes. For example, there is the thriving artistic sector on Ragut-5 which was jumpstarted by clusters of creative Daerpon banding together to pursue grand projects. On the flip side, several of the most notorious crime syndicates that have popped up amongst the Independent Worlds are primarily Daerpon organizations that started as small, tightly-knit, gangs struggling to survive together.
