We are a community of Dungeons and Dragons players and DMs who run a shared world Modified West Marches style campaign. We are on the lookout for new players and keep recruitment open on a rolling basis. If you are familiar with 5th Edition Rules, enjoy playing in a shared setting with a great crew of other players and a team of dungeon masters running independent and sometimes intersecting plots, this might be the group for you. You'll need to be proficient in Discord and Roll20, but if you are willing to learn we'll help you.
Player Expectations
How to Know if We are a Good Fit
We are looking for fun and creative players to join our storytelling heavy west marches server. There are a few things that we look for in a player to know that you'll be a good fit here, and some things that are more of requirements to play.
18+ Age Restriction
We ask that all applying players be 18 or older. The server is made up mostly of young adults and things like cursing and occasionally crass (but not cruel) language occur. The themes involved in some individual games or campaign arcs may veer into R rated territory. We do have a content warnings document that you'll be able to see if you become part of the server to define what sort of content is allowed in more detail.
Familiarity with 5th Edition D&D
We play using the 5th Edition Dungeons and Dragons rules. You can find the SRD here
https://5e.tools/We expect that incoming players have at least one year of experience playing 5th Edition Dungeons and Dragons and has the independence to create a character (including of moderate to high level) without needing hand holding. Total mastry of the rules is not expected, we are all still learning, no matter how long we've been playing.
Roll20 Account for Gameplay and Character Creation
Sessions are played through Roll20. Players are expected to be familiar with the platform, and we look for players with at least three months of experience with roll20. We maintain a Roll20 Server exclusively for character creation where you can keep your sheet. Using the Character Manager on Roll20 you'll export your character to individual Roll20 servers for each DM's specific adventures. Roll20 will be used for maps, mechanics, dice rolling, etc. But during session we do voice chat (no video) on Discord.
You can learn up on Roll20 here

Discord
We operate a Discord server for this campaign which we use for downtime activities, roleplay, scheduling, and for voice chat during sessions. We have a preference for players with a familiarity with the service, but if you are used to other messaging apps and forums it is easy to learn how to use Discord. Because of how much we use Discord to organize and facility play this can be one of the most overwhelming parts of this community for people who are new to discord servers. The majority of your downtime play will be done through text channels in the Discord server, this includes shopping at the guild quartermaster, crafting, learning new tools or languages as well as a robust Roleplay community.
On the Discord we run a variety of non-combat content. The most common is roleplay with other PCs and select NPCs. But we also run serverwide events that have the opportunity to win prizes in gold, magic items, and resources for your character. There are also text based adventures run through a Job Board channel, shops with special setting specific inventory, and it functions as a living document of many rules and processes.
The Setting
The Continent of Teresia
Let me tell you a little bit about
Teresia. Its a continent, maybe the size of Australia. Bigger than you'd think. And it is a land of mythic possibility. Demigods roam, ideas take on form as though divine, and you are the respected and prophecized heroes of this place. Your adventures may take you to all ends of the continent, the islands where pirates and fishpeople roam, the forests ruled by fae, or plunder lost dungeons, fight alongside the valkyr, and cross into the places where the dead roam. You have all recieved a call from
The Tree Who Dreamed, a towering sequioa that reaches 777 feet into the air and has stood, reaching for the sky, for more than ten thousand years. She sees the potential in you, and you have been invited to become a member of the Guild,
The Stewards of a Dream.
Mythic Aethestic
This is a world of demigods and mythic beings. Belief makes things powerful in the world of Teresia and powerful beings often have a touch of something divine. But you are heroes in this world. Selected to take your place in the Mount Olympus of this world, the Canopy of The Tree Who Dreamed.
Many Stories, One World
This server has a team of Dungeon Masters who have all agreed to work collaboratively on the setting and maintaining game balance. But each DM has the independence to run a story to their liking. Each DM brings their own voice and style to their individual campaign, but they are all part of a larger setting. So as a Player Character you can engage in a broad variety of storylines and flavors of adventure.
Our server is a shared setting with multiple DMs and dozens of players. You create a character and can play in any of the available games with that character. Games occur both scheduled and as pick up games and for most sessions anyone is welcome to join. Downtime activities that are done between sessions are managed in text channels on our discord server, and there's always free roleplay with your fellow players in the appropriate text channels. So there are ways to interact on any schedule or time zone. Sessions are played in roll20, but with Discord for voice.
How Does This Work?
With an active player base of between 20 and 40 players (at the time of writing) our server does a shared leveling system where all PCs level together. So when you join you'll immediately get to start at the same level as existing PCs. So don't be afraid of being behind. Because we are managing a large group of players, we've codified a lot of our rules into a Homebrewery Document which you are invited to look through.

Homebrew
We have a limited amount of homebrew character options available for the setting. Check out the Homebrewery Document for all the details on allowed resources, special house rules, and all homebrew class options. The power curve for this server is a little bit higher than for servers we have been a part of in the past. Your characters were chosen by a demigod, The Tree Who Dreamed, and invited into the guild of heroes The Stewards of a Dream. In addition to a great deal of published content, we also have setting specific homebrew and plot related boons. As you progress in level with the server these additional boons and abilities are made available to your character. Even one that'll let you get a 22 in a stat. You can find details on all of them in the
Clout article.
Shared Advancement
Even if you are coming into this server as a new player that is no reason you should be less suited to advante than someone who has been playing since the server started. To keep people at a similar power advancement by level is done through milestones for the entire server and all players. Each level ends with a Capstone Session after which the entire server levels together. We began this server at 1st level, and have intentions to take it to 20th. At the the time of writing we are fast approaching 9th level.
Scheduling
Most of the community are in eastern to western US timezones and game schedules usually reflects that. Many DMs are open to running at other times if requested. Once you are on the Discord server with the Player role you'll be able to see the Session Line Up channel. We used a schedule-bot to post up sessions including a description of the goal and context of the session, how many player slots are available, and other information. With a single click you can sign up for a game and get an automatic reminder from the bot an hour before the session to help you be on time.
Flexible Time Commitment
We have sessions almost every day, and sometimes multiple sessions a day or even multiple sessions at the same time with different DMs and PCs. There is a lot of opportunity to play, and for people who want to play often it is not uncommon for players to be in multiple sessions in a week. On the flip side, for players who don't have as much availability playing in one game a month might be more their speed. Because of the drop in / drop out nature of a west marches style server you are able to play as frequently as your preference.
Why Play with Us?
I've dropped a lot on you about how this works and it might seem a little overwhelming. Trust me that if you can get over the learning curve of roll20 and Discord you'll find a friendly communty of players and DMs. We are always excited with new players who want to get involved and there are opportunities to interact and play in 'downtimes' with more of a play by post style, or through casual and scheduled voice sessions. There is even more interaction and richness to be had with your fellow players if you enjoy written roleplay.
Our team of Dungeon Masters and Player Reps work together to create server events that cross over between multiple DM's storylines and geographic regions. But each DM is free to have a regional setting personal to their own gamestyle and chosen aesthetic. With a broad team of DMs that means there is often an adventure hook that can fit your character concept.
One of the advantages of the way we level and advance together as a community is that you can always begin a new character and not be terribly far behind even the most active players in power level. It makes it easy to experiment with interesting builds and there's a good deal of fun setting specific homebrew that will allow you to try out new ways to play familiar classes.
And finally, we've become experienced in running servers like this and try to run towards a variety of playstyles. Sessions include tactical combats, social encounters, comic interludes and free character driven play. There are ways to engage and jump in built into the server and community that we've found to be helpful to new and veteran players alike. If you can only play by post at odd hours, there's ways for you to engage and still be a part of storylines and advancing your character even if session times don't align most of the time. This is a server where you'll tend to get out what you put in, if you want to engage often, there is likely to be the opportunity. If you only have time to check in periodically, you can still be a part of the action.
Not Our First Server
Collectively this community has been around through a few different servers. More recently we had the Pryrius School for the Extraordinarily Mortal shared campaign, Sanctuary underdark campaign, and currently this, The Stewards of a Dream.
