Longsaddle

Longsaddle was a sleepy little hamlet on the Long Road in the Savage Frontier of northwest Faerûn. Despite its small size, it was a member of the Lords' Alliance thanks to the presence of the powerful Harpell family of wizards.

A somewhat unassuming ranching village that is filled to the brim with magic and adventure that it just might explode. An entire landscape divided by notable families with their own rivals, alliances, and motives. For those who avoid walking the High Road of the Sword Coast, Longsaddle is an all too welcome sight with a promise of a night of comfort that is never dull. The resident Harpell family of mighty mages ensures there is rarely a quiet moment in Longsaddle.
Geography
Within the Savage Frontier, Longsaddle is situated between miles of grassland most of which has been claimed by ranchers. Anyone traveling along the Long Road will no doubt choose Longsaddle as a much needed respite. During the summer months, the agricultural village becomes a ruckus of activity as people pass through to purchase livestock. This contrasts with the remainder of the year where the months are quite sleepy. For the most part, Longsaddle structurally is split in two sections: the Harpell owned hill to the west, and everything else to the east. The division is rather clear thanks to the Hill Stream river which keeps the Ivy Mansion—home of the Harpell family—to one side. Beyond the village are huge swaths of land dedicated to ranching cattle, with the occasional horse or sheep field thrown into the mix.
The Harpell's
Over the almost five hundred years since Shardra Harpell founded Longsaddle, the Harpell family has become extensive. For better or worse, their reputation spans much of Faer^un.
Those who marry into the family tend to adopt the Harpell surname because who doesn’t want the reputation of being able to conjure an explosion at a moment’s notice? The name is something of a double-edged sword for that exact same reason. Some Harpells downplay their ancestry by changing their surname to avoid unwanted attention or being kept thirty feet away for safety.
