Lethlin

A fabled city in a distant region, across the Wildfire Sea. Inhabited by the Exiles of Leth, Lethlin is a self-sufficient biome whose borders remain closed to all travellers. Few if any have seen one of the Exiles, who wear sealed suits whenever they travel outside Lethlin, and while some have reported that they have been within Lethlin itself, these are wild stories of no consequence. It is widely known that the Exiles would rather leave travellers to die than allow them passage within their precious city.

Defences

Lethlin is exceptionally well-defended, built with strange magic the Exiles brought from their homeworld and completely sealed from the outside environment. It has withstood natural disasters and concerted attempts by the infamous Blackthorn Alliance to breach its walls.

Industry & Trade

Lethlin does not often trade with others, but it is assumed that they must have a self-sustaining economy within their city and thus have no need of external barter. The exception is that highly advanced magical artefacts or very rare materials may meet with approval from the Exiles. They have a small barter station outside the walls where traders may try their luck. The Exiles are very decisive about what they do and do not want, though some items are always welcome. In return, they will trade finely-made items that fetch a high price on the luxury markets in the other cities: shimmering material that is as thin as silk and yet protects like armour, turned crystal lenses that identify magic, and potions that give effects seen nowhere else. The rewards might be great, but the journey across the Wildfire Sea is perilous enough that few will ever consider it worth the journey, and thus the luxury goods of Lethlin are striking for their rarity as well as their artistry.

History

Lethlin has existed for centuries, longer than most can remember. Members of the rare long-lived races in Detritus might be able to confirm that the Exiles came to Detritus around 300 years ago, a caravan of refugees mourning their lost home. All they would say of Leth was that they could never return. It was lost to them, and it would be an eternal grief for every generation.   They remained covered up where possible and seemed to fear too much contact with those outside their species. While they could have chosen to remain part of the communities in Detritus, they chose to keep travelling. One of the few scraps of information that emerged about their philosophy was that they feared violence, and the touch of violence on others, as though it was a disease they could contract. It quicly became clear that with the raiders and cut-throat communities of Detritus, they would not be comfortable anywhere.   When they reached the Wildfire Sea, many were skeptical, claiming that this was the obstacle that would turn them back and force them to integrate. Some took spiteful joy in the thought that they would have to come down off their lofty pedastals, get dragged down into the muck like everyone else.   For days and nights, the Exiles of Leth salvaged materials and built. Within a week, they had made ships of a strangeness and beauty not seen by anyone in Detritus before. They sailed across the Wildfire Sea without incident, even from the caustic and unpredictable waves of elemental chaos, and set up the settlement of Lethlin, which means 'New Leth' in their language. After seeing the craft of the ships they had built within a week, it was no surprise to the inhabitants of Detritus that Lethlin rapidly became an impenetrable and constantly-expanding biodome with impossible endurance against the dangers of the plane.   Eventually, Lethlin's expansion slowed. It remains fixed these days, only expanding a little, presumably as necessity arises.
