Banishers

Banishers are walking null fields of magic, Spell-Touched whose contact with Abjuration has left them in the position of being anathema to the forces of the world. Banishers often have unnaturally solid forms, thick skin and coiled muscles. Their skin and hair are faded and colourless but undeniably present. Quite by accident, they can disrupt or unweave a spell, but they can also protect those around them. More than once, a magical storm or elemental event has left a settlement in ruins apart from one building: the building where a Banisher and a handful of civilians decided to make their stand. Banishers are often odd people to talk to. Taciturn, yes, and melancholy, but also full of faith. Not necessarily faith in a divine power, but faith in something. They believe that people can endure and that evil can be stopped. To the other extreme, those that have their faith shattered can become walking nightmares. And as with anyone predisposed to faith, there is always a danger that they will fall into fanaticism.   Banishers are forces of personality but rarely make comfortable neighbours. Where the Iron-Minds have decided to work secretly for the good of people, the Charnels have turned their weakness into strength and the Mutables are the hearts of their community, Banishers are often on the outside looking in. They accept this. When all hope is lost and there seems to be no way out, the Banishers show their true value, willing to sacrifice themselves to save others. Because of this, stories and lore have turned them into mythic heroes who stand between vulnerable people and untamed horror. It's an exhausting expectation and some actively turn away from it, becoming cruel and selfish. Strangely, though, they have a way of coming round in the end.
