The Planet

Like many, it's been named quite simply 'this stuff beneath our feet'. Earth. Large, round, gravid with potential and life. Water covers some portion of the surface; solid land the rest. The overall climate is mid-range for what humans will tolerate. The gravity is normal. A very well designed world, all things considered.

Geography

There are ten classical continents on this Earth, ranging in size from massive to small. The surface area is roughly the same as our Earth - a bit under two hundred million square miles - with similar portions of ocean (three fourths) and solid land (one fourth).

Birye

The largest continent, with roughly 44 million square miles of land area - about 22% of the total land area of the planet. Birye is fairly northern, overlapping with the north pole and trailing south towards the equator. The majority of it is in the middle of the Eastern hemisphere, though some loops over the top into the Western hemisphere. It is entirely in the northern half of the Northern hemisphere.   Birye is home to diverse ethnic groups, with a long history of political fragmentation due to its many mountain ranges and harsh biomes.

Ksedhi

The second largest continent, with 38 million square miles - about 19% of the planet's land area.

Hinth

The third largest continent, with 32 million square miles - about 16% of the planet's total land area.

(Continent 4)

The fourth largest continent, with 24 million square miles - about 12% of the planet's land area.

(Continent 5)

The fifth largest continent, with 22 million square miles - about 11% of the planet's land area.

(Continent 6)

The sixth largest continent, with 18 million square miles - about 9% of the planet's land area.

Walai

The seventh largest continent, with 14 million square miles - about 7% of the planet's land area. Walai is largely equatorial. It is mostly in the Western hemisphere, but curls around to the Eastern on the western edge. The majority of its bulk is in the Southern hemisphere. It is a fairly thin continent compared to its length, and most of it experiences frequent rain.

(Continent 8)

The eighth largest continent, with twelve million square miles - about 6% of the planet's land area.

(Continent 9)

The ninth largest continent, with ten million square miles - about 5% of the planet's land area.

Touyin

The smallest continent, with six million total square miles - about 3% of the planet's land area. Touyin is at temperate latitudes in the Northern hemisphere. It is a mixture of mountains and plains, and is home to only three languages. Touyin is composed of several smaller islands, which are close enough together that crossing between them is easy. Touyin has been unified for most of human history. Despite its small size, Touyin is centrally located on several major sea routes, and has played a significant role in much of history.
